The day we board the Wonder will be my DD's 11th birthday - any idea if I can carry on helium filled balloons? I would like to decorate our room with them? Also can I carry on a birthday cake from a grocery store in a plastic container (since its technically not factory sealed, didn't know if I would have trouble with this).

Thanks,
Tammy

Don't know about the cake, but balloons are not permitted. Here is an excert from the Disney FAQ:

What toys are not permitted?

Kites are not permitted onboard the ship or on Castaway Cay due to safety concerns.

Balloons are not permitted onboard the ship due to safety and environmental concerns. If a Guest arrives with a balloon, the balloon is tagged with the Guest's name and can be picked up after the cruise.

But I am a Balloon Expert - Really.

Please DO NOT bring Mylar (foil) balloons onto the ship. If they get free and fall into the sea, they will stay there forever.:scared1:

Latex Balloons are 100% Biodegradable and if released into the atmosphere or get "littered" into the sea, they will degrade about as fast as an oak leaf.

No, sea turtles have never died from eating a balloon. If it doesn't look or smell like food, animals won't eat it!

But its all up to the DCL rules posted, I'm sure someone has the list of approved and dis-allowed items

I wouldn't want to have to carry a cake around all day. Either order the birthday package or once you are in the room call roomservice and order the cake of the day. Just as a reminder...no candles allowed on board.

Thanks for the quick responses - we'll leave the balloons at home - one less thing to bring along!!

Hi Tammy, Just to let you know, mylar nor latex are allowed on the ship. They will take the mylar ones at port.... Trust me, we have had one taken (that $12.00 Minnie Mouse one) and each cruise we have seen them taken many times. A lot of sad toddlers in the port.... The latex ones are noot allowed either. On one of our cruises which happened to be the 4th of July, they had a huge balloon drop in the atrium. Rachel made a huge announcement about how we had to pop all of the balloons and to be sure not to take any ballons or popped balloons out of the atrium. Talked about how it harms the Marine life. They even had crew members by the elevators and stairs to make sure no one took any back after the celebration. Everyone was good though. Also one cruise there was a lady who had blown up ballons in her stateroom and the SRH came and took them down and told her they were not allowed....

The cake too is a no no. It only can be processed food that is factory sealed. Did you know you have two cake options. Call and have the celebration one delivered to your room and it will be waiting on embarkation or alert the reservationist and have them bring her one at dinner. DCL has stepped up the cake thing. They give you a real size cake now at dinner. Better than the Jelly one they use to give. Know that there are TONS of people celebrating birthdays on the ship. Every cruise we have been on, I swear it seems like there is at least one person celebrating in at leaast (estimate- 75% of the parties). We have at least 5 a night in each dinner services. So I guess this is why they have to say no. We have been on many DCL cruises and each time just by chance it falls during a birthday or an anniversary. Even though it is special to us, it is just routine for them....

I also get ton of pillowcase request for birthdays... (Which I do try to get to all of the b-day ones), so if there are that many on the DIS can you imagine the ones of the non-DISers.

Tell your daughter to have a MAGICal, WONDERful Birthday.....
