Taking Balconies off...

I hope someone here stays in one right away and comes back with a full report and pics!! can you imagine how nice it would be to be the very first people to be staying in a new room? that would be so cool!

I too hope someone on here gets to stay in one of the new rooms. I would love for it to be me, staying in there for the first time before anyone else. But they where booked solid :(.

I wonder if the replaced windows at the DLH will open at all. It sure is nice to be able to get a little fresh air!

i doubt it. It defeats the whole purpose on why they are taking out the balcony...

look on the bright side though, your room will be DUST FREEEEEEEEEEE!!! :D

We just got back last night for our 7 night stay there. Our room was on the 10th floor in the Dreams tower and right next to the part of the hall that was being renovated. They had the area covered but I could see that they had replaced the hallway carpet with a dark blue carpet with stars. They were also painting the outside of the building blue. Sorry no pics.

I have mixed feeling about the balconies. We had a Downtown Disney view and loved being able to open the doors and wath the fireworks, but with small kids I was nervous. I always made sure the top lock was secured. I do hope they make the windows a little more sound proof. DTD is very loud at night. The hotel definately needs a makeover. We stayed in the same tower 2 years ago and loved it, but this time I felt we really see how run dow it has gotten. We still very much enjoyed ourselves. But after our tour of the Villas at GCH (one of our home resorts) we felt a bit underwhelmed.

The rooms look amazing. I wish it would be ready for my stay on New Years Eve.

Which side of the building are the completed renovated rooms? Pool side or DTD side? Or both? I never did get a sense on what section of Dream tower they were working on. I've noticed all the upper DTD level rooms are booked during our stay, but there are still upper pool views.

LOL, I always sound so gloom and doomy...but I've stayed in a brand new hotel (Bellevue WA Westin), and nearly ended up in the hospital b/c of some huge reaction to the chemicals in the place. It stank of new construction materials, it was SO freaky when in the middle of the night I couldn't breathe!

So I surely won't be competition to stay in a room that's still offgassing. :) More rooms for you!

Most choices like this come from a business' need to reduce their liability. Last time we were in DLH we had a pool view. It was so nice to sit in our room with the doors open. In fact we were right above the tables outside of Goofy's Kitchen. If we hadn't had the windows open DH wouldn't have seen a group of serious pin traders sharing their finds (It was during the O-pin House). He grabbed his collection, went down stairs and got a couple of pins we had needed to add to a collection we wanted to complete! Too funny! :yay:
The other reason I will be sad is that we cannot use our DVC points to stay at the hotel part of the GC. I will miss sitting out on the balcony over DTD. ;>( I was telling myself it will be just as nice at DLH with their balcony. But now we just have to plan ahead to try & get in the villas, now. Oh, well
We are trying out PP this summer. I hope that works out.

Too funny, this was going to be my comment too, I am one of the few people who hate the "New car, new house" smell. Makes me nauseous and lead to blinding headaches! So I am also out of the competition for new rooms.
