Taking advantage of cheap flights right now?

Is anyone else looking into booking a trip for September/October? We weren't planning on going for another year or so, but when I checked flights to Florida for September they are only $400 compared to $750 we paid when we went a few years ago. I tried to get in touch with my travel agent but she isn't responding back. I'm curious if it's possible to just purchase cancellation insurance in the even that Disney isn't open yet, or if travel bans are still in place at that time. Seems like such a great opportunity to get some crazy cheap flights!

Don't do it. There is way too much uncertainty at the moment. There is talk of a second wave hitting this fall. There is no insurance company out there that will insure your flights re Covid-19/Disney being open. Those cheap flights might end up being the most expensive flights you never took.

I have a room only reservation that I made when my April trip fell apart and I'm seriously thinking that will not be happening this year.

Travel medical insurance will probably be an issue to consider also. Until the pandemic is officially over, the cancellation (or medical) insurances might NOT cover anything related to Covid-19. Based on how it looks like in FL right now, I wouldn't take the chance of loosing my 400$.

I'd say don't do it.
I just cancelled my Dec DVC (Disney Vacation Club) reservation.
We don't even know which Airlines will be in operation in the future.
I am not even sure medical Ins would even be an option for Canadians going to the uSA.
I wouldn't want to put any stress on a already fragile medical system in Florida.

Mel

I have a cruise reservation for Nov. I’ll do a reality check in mid-August, before the date when any cancellation fees apply, and decide what to do then. I can always move the cruise reservation to a later date.

Nope. Not a chance, for all the reasons listed above. Let alone there's no guarantee Disney parks will even be open by then.

We usually book with Southwest. We cancelled our March Break visit (road trip). The Parks being closed wasn't a major factor, the uncertainty was the greater concern. We have August flights booked, but if things continue as they are, we will likely postpone them until March of next year. That's the benefit of booking with Southwest, no change fees. The threat of this virus will likely still be around this time next year, so at some point, everyone will have to make a travel decision based on their own personal risk/comfort level. The Parks will reopen, and things will gradually deescalate, but the risk will be there until a vaccine is approved. As well, the second and third wave theories will keep the media propping up the doomsday scenarios as long as they can. Everyone has their own tolerance for risk. Travelling to the US any time soon will likely negate most health insurance policies, so that should be a concern. But unless you're booking flights with an airline that offers no-penalty changes/cancellations, I'd say it's not worth the few hundred dollars you may save. Cheers!
