Taking a nap at Disneyland Resort

I did not want to say it but that is always my first thought when I see this happening. I see enough of that.

Jack

Well I doubt a homeless person would be able to afford a Disneyland park ticket, lol!

I never brought this up before because, frankly, there was never a relevant post addressing it, but now that this has come up, I will say that I HAVE seen a homeless person (or at least what I assume based on her appearance was a homeless person) in Disneyland. During a mid-week trip I got on the train at the entrance station and a woman that I believe to be homeless got on after I was sitting. She was wearing several layers of very dirty clothing, had dirt on her face and hands, hadn't brushed her hair in a very long time, and smelled VERY badly. She had two shopping bags (not Disney shopping bags) full of belongings. She sat down on the train and nobody really sat next to her. I was just watching her, trying to figure out how she got into DL in that condition, or how she could afford a ticket. She rode the train the entire time and when we got back to Main St. and all got off the train, she was approached by a CM. I didn't really linger long enough to eavesdrop, just did notice that a CM approached her. Now, I'm not about to ever begrudge anyone a magical day at Disneyland, I was just very surprised to see her there.

We need to stop agreeing on so much, your wife is getting suspicious.:lmao:

I have closed my eyes - not sure if I was actually asleep - with a sleeping 3-year-old in my arms in front of GRR just after dusk.

We were parked at Mickey and Friends and we forgot her blanket in the car. Not an issue for our first 8 hours in the park. She started getting really tired and whining for her blanket around Paradise Pier at dusk. About an hour and a half before her normal bedtime.

My husband and my older daughter stayed back with whoever we were with - and I decided to take my youngest to the parking garage to get the blanket. She was so tired she fell asleep in my arms around Golden Dreams. I made it to GRR with my dead weight and just stopped at a bench.

About 30 minutes later my husband texted me to make sure I made it to the garage okay. It sure doesn't seem like I was sitting on the bench that long...

You mean like this? :rotfl:

Although I could never do it myself, I don't see anything wrong with someone taking a nap at the Park. When I see it, I just think "That person must be really tired (or not feeling well) to be able to sleep with thousands of people around them, on a non-padded surface, with so much noise!".

At the risk of getting flamed, I'm really confused. Why do any of you care if someone is sleeping on a bench? Am I missing something?

I actually have gotten really sick (after riding the swinging gondolas :sad2: ) and had to lay down on the bench for a while... my legs were shaking and I felt like I was gonna puke any moment... and the 95 degree weather didn't help.

I find it sad that someone might be laying down on a bench because they're sick and some other people will see that and think "hobo" and/or think of them as rude.

I mean, I can understand that it could be considered rude in certain circumstances, like when someone is stretched out underneath the only shaded bench on Main Street on a busy day, but honestly I could care less. I just find it rude for other people that might want to sit, but they can always find another place to sit. So... nevermind, I guess I don't really understand

The only answer I can think of is... we can't stop people from being judgmental :confused3

On one trip, I got a migraine. I couldn't find an empty bench so I went on the train and circled the park a few times so I could close my eyes and wait for my medicine to kick in.

I do not think anyone has a problem with the ROA/F issue or a couple minute snooze, it is those extended naps that we disagree with. For day trippers there always is the car they came in, I would think that would be much safer and less imposing.

Jack

I agree. Recline the seat and it is quiet and much more comfortable.

Reading this thread, I think Disney has missed a revenue opportunity here. Perhaps a charge for long term bench rental for napping, "reserved" napping areas, or perhaps Tinkerbell's sleeping room with cots set up for napping:rotfl2:

Being human, we all make judgements every day. Bieng judgemental is just a part of the human condition. I personally don't mind people sleeping at the parks, but I do find it a little rude to take up an entire bench for hours. It is a little strange and socially inappropriate to just plop down and sleep in the middle of Disneyland, but it really does take all kinds of people to make the world go 'round. I think if it were me and I found myself really sleepy in the parks all day I would either go later in the day in order to stay later, or leave when I got really tired to safely drive. If I just couldn't give up one moment of time, then I would save up for a cheap hotel nearby--as there are plenty of deals to me had for not much money. That way I could push myself all day, then go colapse in my nearby hotel.

The issue of the sickness of the swinging gondolas is also very easily solved without bench sleeping. The most obvious cure would be to go on a non-swinging gondola (there isn't enough money in the world to get me to go on a swinging one!). Next, if you mistakenly get on a swinging gondola or get sick in any other way in the park (migraine, heat stroke, etc...) there is the perfectly appropriate option of going to the nurses station. We have been to both, and they are fantastic. They actually have beds and quiet place to lay down for people that are ill or injured. In CA it is near the Pacific Wharf area, and in Disneyland it is in the middle of Main Street. It is also good if you are really thirsty and don't want to purchase water. We went into the one on Mainstreet last summer when my daughter started feeling ill from the heat, and they gave us plenty of water and a cool place for her to sit down for a while. It is so quiet in there and just lovely.

Yeah, but that's being judgmental needlessly and if you think "hobo" immediately when you see a person laying on a bench, I find THAT kinda rude. Is it really that socially inappropriate to sleep inside a park? When I visted Central Park in NYC I saw tons of people taking naps on benches and on the grass (and of course other parks as well). And I just know someone is gonna try to comment saying that a theme park does not necessarily equal a park, but it's generally the same (hence the similar names). If we're talking about "being human" it's more human to get tired and want to lay down instead of making quick judgments about people.

Also, I don't think anyone would sleep in Disneyland for hours-on-end, lol. I've never seen that. And if I do see it, I wouldn't care (why would you?). In fact, I would find it pretty funny. If I saw the same person laying down on a bench after 3 hours (not that I'd remember them), I'd be more like "lol, that person must be really tired" instead of "ugh. how rude and inappropriate. are they a hobo or something?"

Paying $101 dollars for a one-day park hopper ticket, I think most people would want to get the most "bang for their buck" and a lot of people have budgets.

Well I didn't go on the swinging gondolas thinking it would be that bad. I will never go on it again.
I actually didn't know they had a nurses station in Disneyland, but it would be kinda weird if my entire party claimed they were sick and wanted to take a nap

I never said I thought "hobo" when I saw someone sleeping. :confused3 So you lost me there.

I will say you can't really have it both ways--asking for people's opinions, and then getting annoyed when they give theirs and it doesn't line up with your view. That is a judgemental view in itself.

Take care and have fun in the parks.

I never said that you said that. Other people in previous pages have mentioned it. (Sorry for not making that clear).

I did not make any baseless judgments on people so don't go throwing that word at me please; I read people say that they think people sleeping on benches remind them of "homeless" and how it's "rude." All I'm doing is just trying to help them understand and give them a different perspective. Even if that may be ever so slight. I'm not annoyed at them at all as I am with your (sorry to use such a harsh word, but) hypocritical claims.

Hahahaha, that's amazing! :rotfl:

I think its great when I see someone sacked out at dl.
it tells me that they are so relaxed and comfortable , that they can do that. i know for me, there have been times after a big meal, i just need about 20 min. of shut eye. so , we will usually hop on the train and take the grand circle tour. or take a trip on the mark twain. i don't think there is anything wrong at all with napping in the park. there have been times where we have seen an exhausted mother or father just looking bleary eyed, sort of snoozing whilst rocking a stroller back and forth.
i don't think there is a judgment in character at all. people get tired. we see kiddos sacked out in strollers all day long right? there is no lack of character there right? lol!!!

That is one of the crazy things about discussion forums:rotfl:. People invite discussion and then get peeved when it doesn't support their thoughts...oh, well!

As for the napping issue...I go to Disneyland on average about twice a week, and I think I might have seen EVERYTHING!! Nappers on benches, leaning against pillars, on rides and in attractions, once on a patch of lawn!!

The Country Bear Jamboree had an amazing affect on my husband--put him out like he had been drugged EVERYTIME. It didn't matter if we went first thing in the morning, mid day, or in the evening. ZAP! He never did see more than the first minute of the show. Once, when the lights came up, he and the person next to him were leaning up against each other--dead to the world!! Very cute!

Maybe you should read my post too before you call someone crazy.
:confused3

Oh well, indeed.

Well, you did ask us our opinion and that is my opinion. I think of the homeless. Maybe I live in an area where that is common and it kind of sets me off at DL. Stupid I guess, but there it is. Oh, by the way, no one calls then "Hobo's" anymore. We call the "outdoorsmen" in our house.:lmao:

I still don't understand what's wrong with sacking out on a bench. I remember one time sitting down with my twelve-year old and she rested her head in my lap for what, I'm sure, we both thought would be a minute, and it turned into forty-five. She fell asleep and I wasn't about to wake her. Does this make me rude?

Lights Out - don't worry about it. You can't make everyone happy. There will always be those out there judging you in strange and inappropriate ways.

Oh well, indeed.

And there you go, another crazy THING about discussion boards--there will always be someone who thinks they are a 'thing'.

Sorry if you were offended, and personalized my comment regarding 'things' to mean you (whom I presume is a person, not a thing).

Enjoy your nap!!
