Taking a friend for one day to US/IOA

My husband and I are Premier AP holders, so we are used to going to the parks mid-afternoon and using FOTL after 4 pm, and just enjoying a few hours at a time. We also are not thrill-riders, so don't do Mummy, Dragons, Hulk, etc.

However, we have a friend of my husband's coming to visit for a weekend while we are there in December, and plan to do one full day with the half-price, 2-park, 1-day ticket. It will either be Friday the 12th or Saturday the 13th.

Any ideas for how to get the most out of the day? My thought was to go to Universal first because that has the most shows that take time, and try to see as many as possible. Then head to IOA to wrap up the day. Only problem is that if we do go on the Friday (which I assume might be preferable?), IOA closes at 6 pm, whereas Universal closes at 7 pm.

At IOA, I know I'd like to take him on Spiderman, and if he's game, all the wet rides. Other than those, I can't see us doing anything else unless he really wants to try Hulk or Dragons, in which case we'd wait while he went on his own (are there single-rider lines?).

At Universal, we will want to do as many of the following shows and attractions as possible: Terminator, Horror Makeup show, Blues Brothers, Beetlejuice, Fear Factor, MIB, Jaws. Plus if he wants to go on Simpsons, I'll try that with him (haven't done it yet), and we'd send him alone on Mummy if he wants to ride (again, is there a single-rider line?). Given time, we'd also do Disaster and maybe Animal Actors.

Does anyone know if the Vinyls are still performing at Mel's Diner? They were not on the schedule when we were there in September, but we'd like to see them as well.

So . . . given all of the above, any suggestions for where to start and which day would be better?

I know that the 2-day, 2-park half-price ticket would be a bargain, but as it's a short trip and we have so many other things we want to show him (and he requested a day trip to the Gulf Coast), we have to do Universal/IOA for just one day. We'll also stay at CityWalk for a while to watch Orange Avenue or 4th Wall Broken if one of them are playing on the stage that weekend.

Any other music worth seeing in the CityWalk area that weekend? He and my husband are both musicians, so we're always looking for live music to enjoy.

Susan
