So I am considering inviting my grandparents (who live with us) on a trip for FD this summer.

Me - 35, DS 3, DD 7, GM 75 and GP 83

Is this doable? We're close. They love the kids, and disney, but haven't been in 20 years.

We obviously wouldn't go commando. Well, maybe me and the kids for a day or two.

Any advice?

We have been pricing a trip to Wisconsin - but we're finding that a nice house up there would be $1200 or so. Plus gas, food, entertainment, etc - it will easily be $2500 - $3000

I could do ASMu Family Suit with tickets for close to that during Free Dining with Park Tickets....

Am I nuts?:rolleyes1

I take four generations (my grandparents, mom, me, kids), and I'm not nuts. Now, the August part...maybe a little nuts. We like the cooler, less crowded months. :)

We have gone to Disney every trip but one with MY grandparents (my mom has no interest.) They love going wth us. In fact, they are the ones bugging if we can go more often. We get 2 rooms at the AllStars, but I am sure a suite is good too. We don't spend every minute with them, when they take a midday brak they will usually take our oldest back (she isn't as into the comando touring as her sisters are.) We love going with them, I will be sad the day they decide they can't anymore. They will be 73 on our next trip so I guess I have some time!

Have a great time, and if you are crazy so are we.

We just did a similar trip. My son (5) husband and I went for 7 days arriving on Friday, flying from DC. My parents arrived the following Monday, driving from Atlanta. My parents are both 70 and in excellent health. They did well for the 4 days they were there and loved being with their grandson on his birthday. I made all the plans and did everything for them and it worked out well. If you are going longer, I suggest a rest day. We didn't since we were only doing 3 days in the parks and a 4th half day before we left to fly home and they left to drive the rest of the way to their FL condo.

We booked 2 rooms at Coronado Springs and had them next to each other. It worked out well since we got a break at night but once we were all up, we just ran from room to room until we left. And we were all on the dining plan and ate together.

We did DL with my grandparents (and my son and my parents)- it was wonderful! Granted DL is a different type of park anyway, but we still had to adjust our touring habits. (My grandpa was in a wheelchair, that naturally slowed us down to a pace my gram could handle.)

It was the first time either of them had been to an amusement park beyond our little hometown family place.

Most precious memory was convincing my grandfather to go on Splash Mtn. 3 days later, he looks at me- "How far did we fall in that boat again?" He loved it. :thumbsup2

I would really consider going another time rather than summer. A friend of mine took 3 grandparents with them during an August trip and it was really hard for them. They just couldn't take the heat and humidity with all the walking, even with afternoon breaks.

If you're nuts, I am too! :rotfl:

We are taking DH's parents, and brother's family this August. Last year we took my side of the family (Including my 92 y/o grandmother - so FOUR generations!) and it was a blast! We had to slow down a bit because we had two wheelchairs, but it was a great trip. We stayed off site in a house with my family, but we are staying onsite in a villa this time.

Enjoy your trip. The memories are precious!

When we did our Grand Gathering in 2008 there were four generations! My Mom, Me, DD and Dgs. We had 16 in our group and we are sooo glad we did it. The memories we made will last a lifetime. My Mom celebrated her 80th birthday on that trip and she says it was the best birthday she ever had!

Your not nuts, we did this last year- took my Mom (82yrs) with us, along with my daughter & her son (3), you are really taking them all at the prime age for this type of trip, if your littlest one is a bigger (5-6) they are much quicker and the oldest will slow them down horribily, so a 3 year old is probably the same speed as your oldest. Only few suggestions- RENT ECV's for the grandparent, unless they are TERRIFIC shape, the walking, in the heat of August is tough on middle aged, so older will find it very difficult to keep up and the last thing you want them to do is feel like they are slowing you down. Another suggestion- AVOID the parks during the day, wait until the sun starts to go down, you will do much better- August is a very hot month (we usually go then) and the humidity is horrible. & Make sure the ECV rider has a HAT, top of their heads get a lot of heat.

Enjoy the trip, it is very do-able, just take it slow and don't try to do everything- remember you are giving your Grandparents Memories they will treasure, don't let anything come before that. Do it- you will not regret it, it might not be your easiest trip to Disney, but it will be memorable. :wizard:

We are taking my DM this August as well. She will be 76 and is pretty good shape. She has been a few times before so we are making very laid back plans. We are planning on doing the parks in the morning; having lunch; and then back to the hotel to rest. She will probably stay there if we go back to the parks in the evening. I am so excited because she will get to enjoy if for the first time with my DD7.:goodvibes

You are not nuts!!! We did 4-generations last August, including my 92 year old Grandmother! We did have lots of hands with my DH, Sister and her DH, my Mom and Stepdad although some of those hands were busy with the younger kiddos. Kids age ranges were 1, 4, 9 & 12. We all had a blast, highly recommend Randy's Mobility for scooter rental. They dropped off at resort when we arrived and picked up on day of our departure.
We also did Magic Kingdom back in 1996 with DHs grandparents (they were 85 and 91 years old at the time). We did not have a scooter for either of them and they were quite the troopers!

Love seeing this because we are leaving in one month with a four generations trip! My grandma 80, DM 55, me 30, DD 9. SO EXCITED! I'm worried about the heat and we are going in May. August might be a little rough with the heat and humidity. We were going to just rent a wheelchair for her at the parks. She walks fine but I don't want to tire her out.

Have a wonderful trip! What wonderful memories you will make!

I've gone with my grandma, who's 79, and myself, 30, and my husband and daughter who was 2 at the time. It was a blast!

This will be our 3rd year going 3 generations in Aug!! We have grown to like the end of Aug for vacation. We take our time, enjoy the pools and drink tons of fluids.
Also don't be afraid to split up is necessary. My parents and my husbands parents don't always stay with us in the parks the whole time and they actually also watch the kids so we can get a bit of time to do a couple of things for the adults.
