Takeout

When we have stayed at the Beach Club, we did takeout from several EPCOT CS restaurants:

Sunshine Seasons (the roasted beet and goat cheese salad and the grab and go sushi both traveled well)

French Boulangerie- delicious sandwiches. They wouldn't let us take the creme brulee to go. They said it wouldn't make it back to the resort in the July afternoon heat. The chocolate mousse was good, though.

Tangierine Cafe- they have decent takeout containers for their delicious meals.

One problem we encountered is that they don't have any plastic bags if you are trying to carry more than one meal. Once we asked for a shopping bag from the Soarin' gift shop and on another occasion, we brought our own bags.

Hurricane Hanna's at the Stormalong Bay pool has hamburgers and other sandwiches you can bring back to your room.

What kind of containers did they have?

At Sunshine Seasons, the salad was on a paper plate and either they put another paper plate over it and/or plastic wrap around it. I have taken this out a couple of times and I think they did both.

I believe the sandwiches from France were wrapped in paper, like a sub sandwich.

At Tangierine, they have the styrofoam "clamshell" divided containers.

It is! This is the vegetarian platter from Tangierine in Morocco. Falafel, hummus, lentil salad, taboule, olive salad and bread. Love their menu!

I have to agree. I have read so many times on these boards that I'm paying not just for the meal but for the "experience" - that's what is supposed to make up for the lackluster food. It's mehhh in the parks - why would I want to try to package it up? There are so many other options available - seriously, why bother?

I understand.
But to "fully experience" it, you need to eat it at the restaurant where it is designed to be eaten. It is just not optimized for Take Out at WDW.

How old are your children? Can you enjoy some sit down restaurants, or is that for another trip?

I would think that this is correct. It is the restaurants that are special, and the atmosphere at WDW, not so much the food. Take a lot of the food out of the restaurants, and it's just food, not particularly "Disney food."

We had the beet and goat cheese salad to go this summer. There was a plastic cover placed over the paper plate. It held up pretty well. I was even able to get a large plastic bag to carry the food in at checkout.

We were able to order sushi and food off the Kona Cafe menu in July. We did that at the Kona Island Sushi bar counter. It was all packaged up nicely.

Really? You mean if we go to the sushi cart, we can actually order takeout from the Kona menu??? Didn't know this to be the case, but that would be wonderful! Can you confirm this?I thought the Sushi cart had its own, very short, menu...?

We have been in the same situation -- needing to leave the parks because our little ones needed a break -- but wanting to take dinner, as the counter service options at the Polynesian are so limited!

I would love to hear others' input about food from each park that comes easily packaged to carry back to the resort!!

Here's a thought for MK-

Columbia Harbor House has a variety of interesting sandwiches (delicious tuna or hummus on multigrain bread). They are served with bags of chips. You could bring along some Ziploc bags and seal the sandwiches in those. You may want to bring along a plastic grocery store type bag to make the takeaway to the resort easier. Those things should be pretty light to carry in your park bag.

If you think Captain Cook's options are limited, you should see the Beach Club Marketplace!

Anyway, previous posts have also mentioned sushi and salads from Sunshine Seasons. I would guess sushi can be had also at Katsura Cafe, can anyone confirm?

Yes, we did ordered sushi from the sushi counter one night this past July. While waiting for our order we started talking to another customer and she was also waiting for her carryout. Her carryout order was off the Kona Cafe menu. I was surprised that was an option, so I asked the cashier at the sushi counter and he confirmed it. I then added the NY strip steak and the pan asian noodles to my order.

It was very wonderful! Here's a link to my dining review where we ordered food from both Kona Sushi Island and Kona Cafe from the Sushi Island counter. You can see how they package it.

Both Wolfgang Puck Express locations in DtD offer take out and you can get take out from Wolfgang Puck Cafe if you order from the bar.
