I'm planning a split day for Epcot and MGM and was wondering how the Boardwalk is during the day? Are the performers out? I thought I read somewhere they don't come out until late afternoon/early evening?

What I'm trying to decide is, if I should take the boat from the IG in Epcot over to the Boardwalk, check that out and then walk over to MGM or if we should just grab the boat that goes right over to MGM and not bother getting off at the Boardwalk. Also how long is the walk from the Boardwalk to MGM?

The walk from Boardwalk to MGM is maybe 15-20 minutes, very pleasant. The walk from IG to Boardwalk is much shorter, maybe 5-10 minutes. You might want to walk first from IG to Boardwalk, spend some time looking around. Then if you have enjoyed the walk so far, and want to walk a little longer, you can walk to MGM. If you are tired, you can catch a boat from Boardwalk to MGM.

I have only taken the walk from IG to Boardwalk, but Boardwalk is definitely worth a stop! I usually opt for the boat from Boardwalk to MGM then. I say, it's worth checking out as it won't really take you out of your way! There may not be any performers out, but it will be less crowded and you'll be able to enjoy the atmosphere a little more!

Performers usually show up around 4:30 or so. We love Boardwalk at night-great atmosphere.
Walk from BWI to MGM is about 15-20 minutes-nice walk. If you are tired or want to take in some scenery-take the boats.

::yes:: I agree with this poster!

The Boardwalk is a place that I love to stop and look around. Even if there aren't performers, it is a nice place to look in shops and enjoy the scenery.

The walk from Epcot to the Boardwalk (5 min) is much shorter then the walk from the Boarwalk to MGM (15 min); however, both are equally as enjoyable. If there is a boat readlily available, though, hop on that and take a rest while looking around at the beautiful area.

Have a magical time! :earboy2:

I would agree with everyone else that it is not a real long walk. The only down side is that there is very little shade in sections. Unless you can see the boat, it is quicker to walk than to wait.

is the walkway ever closed off?
thinking of taking an early morning walk from BCV to MGM (while DS is still sleeping) before hitting the pools

If the boat leaves the dock the same time you start walking, Boat will beat you by a mile. The walk isn't that long, but once you leave the Boardwalk area, there's nothing to see and it can be a bit boring. And with the rest of the day to walk around parks, the less walking you can do, the better.

Yes, there are several Friendships boats that go between MGM BWI YC and Epcot.

I disagree with you guys about the walk from MGM to Boardwalk--we did it once on a hot day after a full day of the parks, and it seemed a very long walk. Unless you are fresh and rested, take the boat!

We've walked both to MGM from the Boardwalk and "home" after the day at MGM. The walk home seemed longer to tired legs, but after Fantasmic, riding on a boat full of people (if we could get in the first boat) just seemed worse to us than some tired legs.

I would disagree with the post about the boat beating you to MGM by a mile. After it leaves the Boardwalk it makes stops at the Swan and Dolphin and maybe even the Yacht and Beach. If you walk a nice steady pace you should get there quicker. Of course this depends on your age, # of little ones etc, but if you're even considering walking I would bet you're in good enough shape to beat the boat.

It can be hot as there isn't much shade, but it's a very enjoyable walk.

If the boat is leaving bwi or at yc, you can take a nice strollover to swan and catch it there on its way to mgm.

I never knew that MGM had a boat stop! Can you tell me where it is? Does the boat go directly from Epcot to MGM? If so, where is the boat at Epcot at? We're going at the end of this week with ds and his wife.

As you head towards the main entrance to MGM, the boat dock is over to your right, sort of over the fence from Fantasmic.

The boats go all the way from MGM to Epcot, but stop off at several hotels along the way.

At Epcot, the boat dock is outside the International Gateway, between the UK and France. If you stand on the bridge you can see the dock.

I'm with you!
