Take this common sense test

I've seen most of those before but still tricky! :( I only got five right. lol.

If you have 2 loaves of bread and 8 cans of bean dip and you are having a champagne party, how many can you serve if they each want a 1/2 ounce of bd on a 1/4 of a sandwich?? Oh, and how many will puke their guts out afterwards??

It depends. Is Jesus at this party?

First of all, you would never serve champagne with a bds :crazy2: And it all depends on how many bds's each person eats. And I always use a whole can for 1 sandwich, it is just proper. :snooty:

Evidently I'm not up to speed on my bean dip etiquette.

To be honest - I don't really understand why that trick works. Someone good at math can explain that to us all. I just am good at remembering tricks :cool2:.
That's the basic rule for dividing by a fraction - multiply by the inverse. When you divide by a number less than one, your answer will always be bigger than the number you started with.

When you divide, you are putting things in groups. 30÷2=15 means there are 15 groups of 2. 30÷1/2=60 means if you had 30 things and put them into groups of 1/2, you would have 60 groups. It's like how many 50¢ pieces would there be in $30?

My best stab at it.

anytime you have a whole number and need to add, subtract, multiply, or divide by a fraction, that whole number goes over 1.

30/1

Then, when you're talking a division problem by a fraction

the

1/2

the rule for dividing fractions is, you flip the top number (numerator) around with the bottom (denominator) and switch it from a division problem to a multipulcations.

Thus

30/1 times 2/1
30 times 2 is easy!

or you could have taken .5 because it's the same as 1/2 and divide it by 30.

I've got a beef with the guy who made this up. He capitalized the Fourth of July. Bugger!

Well then, at least I know my numerators from my denominators and that's what's important. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the math explanations ::yes::. It's funny how it makes perfect sense when I think of it in terms of decimals (or cents). Must be why I love the metric system so much ::yes::. It's easy and makes perfect sense.

That threw me off too. It seemed like he was talking about the holiday instead of a date.

Yea me! I got them all right! :cheer2: :cheer2: I told DH that he married a smartie and he reminded me that it was a smart *ss. :rotfl2: He is taking the test next.

Huh? I think it was a trick question and they are lying about the answer. Just to make us math idiots feel stupid. :teeth:
