There were only 3 Resorts and the Magic Kingdom was the only park. Still, there was something about Walt Disney World in those days that just cant bbe defined. It was a different kind of magic than the magic we know now.

Want to see it again? Well here's your chance. I found this website that has posted a WDW brocure from 1981. It has lots of pictures of the park back in those days. It talks about WDW Village (later to become Downtown Disney), The Top of the World (now the California Grill) and the Golf Resot (Now Shades of Green). Its worth your time if your nostalgic about the early days of WDW like me.

Heres the link:

The Planning Your Vacation and The Map of WDW options aren't up yet, but everything else seems to be there.

I love this stuff too!

I know I'm getting old when the Village and Top of the World don't seem all that long ago to me.

You made me cry!!!! My very first trip to WDW was in the summer of '82! We camped at the campgrounds in a camper, went to River Country and ate the the Empress Lilly!!! This brings back such memories to me. Thank you :)

Groosch!!!...I waz thar in '73....(perhaps earlier! ;) )....That's really great...THANK YOU!!! :):):):)

My first trip to WDW was July, 1982. I was an adult taking my 7 year old son. I could see SpaceShipEarth but EPCOT wasn't open yet :( I wanted so badly to visit EPCOT that summer *sigh*

Thanks for this link :)

My first trip was June of 1975, my parents paid for it so I could go with a few classmates, from then on I was hooked now I have my 20 yr ols hooked, he has been going since he was two. :D

Thanks! I remember all of this!

Don't forget Discovery Island! That and River Country were just about the only "things to do" outside MK and both were smaller and more intimate than anything around today. I miss them both.
(First trip 1980 and didn't go back until '92.)

Great history there, Don, thanks for the link. Love those type of items.

I loved the "Disney Village Marketplace"...and I still sometimes call DD the village. My first visit was in 1974 and I remember the ticket books..and trying to decide what e-rides I loved best.

I still have a picture brochure from the early years.....it shows a family strolling around Fort Wilderness.....and the mom is wearing tall white high-heeled boots with her shorts!!

My mom still has our WDW 10th anniversary t-shirts! What memories this site brings back. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing these! I love to read about the history of WDW!

How cool! We went there that year....:D

I remember those days fondly, but there is still more to love about the WDW of today.
