We're coming from the Buffalo area and was looking at the map. Does it make more sense to come all the way down 79 to get to PIT airport or cross i-80 and come down 376?:confused3

We're travelling on a Saturday if that makes any difference.

TIA
Don

If you are already on I-79, I would say that is the easiest. You avoid downtown Pittsburgh that way, and there is a lot of construction around the city.

I agree. I'm a Pittsburgh native even though I'm not living there now. Stay on 79S as it avoids the downtown area.

Definitely stay on 79 and then take 376 to the airport when you hit it south of Pittsburgh.

Oh, for everyone else who responded who used to live in Pittsburgh. You may have been confused about why they would take 376 at all and go through town. The Parkway west in now called 376 from downtown until it connects to 80 west of 79.

Instead of having at least three route designations for the Parkway west, 279 from town to 79, 22/30 from 79 to the connection with 60 and then 60 from there, about 4 months ago they officially renamed it the 376 corridor.

Here's a map showing the re designation.

Agree with I-79. The only time I encountered a problem was when there was a concert at Starlake and 22/30 was backed up and that was on a Saturday.

I've lived in Pittsburgh all my life and didn't know that! I knew they redesignated the parkways as 376 but didn't know they renamed 60 all the way to 80.

I though they would have stopped the 376 at the airport and have it just become 60 then.

Oddly enough Google maps says that taking 80 to 376 is only a mile different and 2 minutes longer.

If you were coming in at evening rush hour I may give it a consideration, but I have never taken "376" all the way to 80 so i have no idea what the road is like.

There are a few tolls though.

Well we took 376 and it was a really smooth drive. It was nice being able to avoid the central hub of Pitt. If anyone else is coming from the north I would strongly recommend 376.

Thanks to all who provided the comments!

You still wouldn't have gone through the city. You would have gone down 79, bypassed the city and then hooked up with 376 on the other side of the Airport and been on 376 for maybe 10 miles.

As I posted above, the portion of 376 that you took was just renamed. When you said 376 all the local and ex-local Pittsburghers were very confused on why you would have gone out of your way to come in on what we call the Parkway East which is 376 on the other side of Pittsburgh going out to the turnpike.

I'm glad it worked out for you.
