Nighty-night, Smileybug!

I'm out too, y'all......Good night!

.

Well, I missed everyone tonight while I was at Starbucks. Hmph. Oh, well. Hope everyone has an awesome night and wonderful Friday!

On a good note, (actually great note) I received my contract for the 2009-2010 school year today, so I know I have a job for another year. You all think it might sound funny that I say that, but we can't say anything for sure anymore. They released 53 teachers this week.

Did anyone see the education special on CNN tonight about the Bethea girl at J V Martin Middle School in Dillon, SC. Just letting ya'll know--my dh is a teacher in Dillon County, if that tells you anything. I work in the neighboring county, Marion, which has the highest unemployment rate in the state of South Carolina. People ask why I don't just go to North Carolina and teach. The honest answer is this: I grew up in South Carolina. I might live in NC, but I'm a South Carolinian at heart. South Carolina's public schools were good enough for me, and they are going to be good enough for my kids. They got me where I am today and I owe a great deal to the system, even if the governor of SC is failing the system itself (sorry Smileybug, if you like Mark Sanford, but he's only really given teachers any kind of raise 2 of his years in office, but the legislature can get whatever they want).

Okay, off my soapbox, for now. I'm still grateful for my contract. I'll be returning it signed tomorrow. Only problem is, it does not list my contractural days, even though other teachers' do. I think this means that I am expected to report back to work after the July 4th holiday. They said that they may consider it. Most teachers have a 190 day contract (9 months). Mine has been 210 days (10.5 months) for the past three years, but they mentioned last month making me a 12 month employee, which means I would get annual leave to take whenever I need, as long as a certified teacher could be found to be a long term sub in my class that I teach 1/2 day.

Okay, long post. Sorry. The laundry is calling, too.

That is good news! My DH is always worried about the contracts that pay for his position not coming through, so when he gets to sign something saying he has a job for X-months we are thrilled.

My work had a meeting about cuts too, but we were told that since they were proactive (in other words, cut a lot of people already) that people were last on the list for cuts this time. I did notice they didn't say there would be no cuts, but it was still promising.

Happy Friday!!

Hope you all have a great day! A little more chatter around here later on would be nice, of course.....

Just sayin'.....:surfweb:

Mean Queen: I will likely be close enough for a Starbucks meet at least once in a while! We are looking from St. Pete up to about Dunedin. I don't really expect to find anything in St. Pete itself in our price range (renting) but my dad has everyone he knows on high alert...it's like he's sent out this little army!:rotfl: He's only a little excited.... We abandoned the idea of the Ocala area because there's just not enough of a job base up there, and we decided that if we're coming to Florida at all, let's just go and be right near my dad and not have to drive even 2 hours to see him.

creativeamanda: that is great news about your contract!! :cheer2: Definitely reason to be happy! I think that's great that you're trying to give back in your own community. Our little local elementary school "failed" the No Child Left Behind stuff two years in a row (that means nothing to me but I won't get into that now); by law parents were given the option to send their kids to one of two other nearby elementary schools. Not one family took that option - they all stayed and put their suport into our own school. I'm gonna miss our school probably more than anything else!!:sad1:

.

Good morning ya'll. :goodvibes
I hope its a happy day for all of us. :thumbsup2
The Dow is still gaining.
They are saying "cautiously optimistic"

At least no bad = good. :woohoo:

creativeamanda....Don't worry about hurting my feelings with your opinion of our great Gov. I have never voted for him and never will. :thumbsup2 I think he is wrong, wrong, wrong, Did I mention that I think he is wrong. Well, I do. :thumbsup2 But as far as your contract goes.........WOOHOO :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: That is great news.

Hopefully we will all get to chat later. Have a wonderful day. :grouphug:

The lake is fine to walk/fish on now, but areas are starting to melt. It is going to be warm the next few days (40's) so the shoreline will start to breakup. It's 21 but colder with the wind chill.

Travel Channel has Disney on. It's warm there. :rotfl2: They are doing Tower of Terror right now.

Hey peeps. :goodvibes Speaking of peeps....have ya'll bought yours yet? :)
