It's getting to the point I may need to talk to his Dr. Things have become worse since he hit puberty with the hormone change. I certainly have been thinking about attenion deficit. If there are things to try before drugs, I would much rather go that route. He loses things at home and school. A little while after "taking care" of them, he has no idea what he did with something. At school if he loses a paper, that means automatic zero which really hurts grades. Math is actually one of his better subjects. The school he is in is thought by many as the worse out of the 3. The 3 I am talking about are Grade School (K - 5th grade) Middle School (6th - 8th) and High School. Too many teachers in this school, lets just say, people are very unhappy with. This is vacation week then I am setting up a meeting with his principal. No one has helped us so far. I just get emails (after I ask) pretty much saying he's a pain, has difficulty focusing, gets distrated easily and doesn't complete his work. Last week I emailed 4 teachers asking how he was doing and 2 of the teachers never responded and I know they read the emails b/c I got read receipts.

Take a copy of those read receipts to the principal. He/she needs to know the teachers never replied to you.

I will most certainly tell her. Unfortunately I deleted them. I learned not to trust PowerSchool for grades. PowerSchool only is useful if kept updated.

I would definitely talk to your doctor. My DD9 has ADD. Someone once explained the different types of ADHD/ADD in terms of Winnie the Pooh characters. When I find it, I will post it for you. But essentially, the stereotypical ADHD is like Tigger. Unable to sit still, can't focus on one thing, tends to get in trouble without meaning to. My DD is ADD and like Piglet. Full of anxiety, afraid of everything, gets distracted by these fears whether they are real or just perceived. She also is very impulsive, speaks out the minute something comes into her head whether it's the right thing to say or the right time to say it. We did put her on medication because her fears overwhelmed her to the point where she couldn't function properly. I figure if it was any other illness my child had, I would get medicine to help fix it. This is just an illness of the brain. She's still herself, she still has a lot of the same problems, but she can function without her ADD getting in the way too much.

There are sites that talk about Omega 3 and diet as a way to control ADHD/ADD. If you want to try alternatives to medicine, I'd look into those.

Thanks, that's intersting about the Winnie the Pooh Characters. Of course I would rather not have him on meds, but if that is what he needs, I will do it. If other alternatives take longer to see results and don't often work, I'm afraid to waste too much time on them b/c he has 4 D's in his important classes and 1st quarter he got 2 F's and 2 D's in those classes. Success to be able to pass 8th grade would be helpful and there is no way her can manage High School like this.

We finally had to get my daughter meds for her mild depression. She is a completely different person. Thankfully, she was never severly depressed or suicidal. It has helped all aspects of her life. She even has honor role as a Senior for the 1st time in her High School career. Before she simply didn't care. I only have 2 kids and they both have issues. Bet some people have opinions of that little fact. You know what they can do with their opinions :lmao:

Mean Queen, sorry you can't go to Disney today. I'm sure you were disappointed.

I just remembered that my cousins daughter is very involved with ADD. She helps many people and has even spoke at conventions about it. I think an email is in order. :)

Everybody has some sort of "issue" and the only thing I see is a mom taking care of her kids.

We aren't hiding. Just because we stay far, far away from the political threads doesn't mean we are hiding.

Sadie: I always tell parents to use meds as a last resort. But when my kids are sick, I use meds as a last resort, too. The kids are yours and I have no doubt you will do what's best for them.

Rats, kimmar found us here, lol. I mean, uh, hey, kimmar, glad to see you here!

The meds as last resort has always been my approach too. I may have to come to terms quickly that meds may be needed.

:goodvibes You'll make the best choice for your kid. As a teacher, I've always respected choices parents made for their kids. And I always treat kids like I would want my own children to be treated.

I wish more of his teachers felt this way.

So do I. :sad2: Parents don't send their worst kids to school and keep the good ones at home. Every child that walks in the classroom is loved by someone. They are someone's baby. I need to treat them like that when they walk in my door.
