Largo is near me. Moving around that much at 11 would be horrible.

Coming from a small town in Maine, it was so different. My brilliant:rolleyes: divorced mother decided that we were going to start a new life with my father in FL. Twenty something miserable years of marriage was not enough or she forgot how rotten it was. So my sister who was 15 and a freshman in HS and I were relocated to FL. We spent 2 days driving down to Cooper City in Ft. Lauderdale. Spent 1 mont with 8 people in a house until we got our own place. My father did not change as he promised, no surprise there and after a lets just say horendeous episode, we moved to Largo with my mothers side of the family. 10 people (3 families) in a house and they were NOT nice people.

Our house in Maine did not sell so we took a lovely Amtrak ride to Boston and headed back to Maine. I don't know what my mother was thinking. Obviously the house was not going to sell. She left my 3 brothers living there ages 19, 21 and 23. It became a major party home so it was trashed when the realtor brought people to see it. :rotfl2: So that was my 5 months spent in FL.

That sounds like quite the experience. Do you enjoy Maine. Other than the cold?

Yes, I sure do. Could use more excitement now and then though. I like 4 seasons and I like winter, it's just too long. I'm an outdoor person and don't do well with heat. Maine is a high taxed state. Anything they can think of to tax you, they will. My cousin from FL couldn't believe how expensive our state universities are either. That's a negative. There's good and bad in everything.

Only to get away from certain people. ;) We both love mountains and wouldn't want to live in a "flat" area. I also like my lakes without alligators and water moccasins. :rotfl2:

The mountains of N.C. are beautiful. I don't know about the gators and moccasins though.

I have heard they are. I would love to see them. My cousin and his daughter built a vacation home somewhere in the mountains in NC. He offered it's use, but I don't know if he was serious or just saying that to be nice. Know what I mean?

My mom did that... and it had to be in a bottle... I remember it fizzing up. Now for me as a don't-like-any-of-my-food-touching kind of person, I thought it was GROSS

OMG, you must be my long lost sister or something. People at work make fun of me because I hate my food touching. I'm ok with casseroles though.

I'd highly reccommend the Asheville, NC area or the upstate of SC. NC has pretty low taxes, imo, and has 4 actual seasons of near equal length.

My DH is flying into Asheville tomorrow. He's heading to Flatville for work. We have friends who are building houses out there, though that hasn't worked out so well since the real estate market tanked.

Asheville is a beautiful city. As a child, I remember our first family vacation--we drove to the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, TN, and then to Biltmore Estate in Asheville. It has become a sort of home away from home for me and dh. We went in 1994 (Spring Break), 1996 (Honeymoon), 1998 (2nd honeymoon), and 2003 (Candlelight Christmas). You could say we go to Asheville as often as many DISers go to Disney World.

It's sad to see the housing market tank there. It really is a beautiful city.

Biltmore at Christmas is sooo beautiful!! :goodvibes

I didn't get enough rest today. :headache: I wanna go to Disney with LegoMom but she already left.

You still need to take care of yourself! Surgery is still surgery, it's hard on the body. And you do have the Vegas vacation to rest up for. You probably won't sleep the whole time you're there.
