Ok, here's a price comparison for ya......10 nights at a FW campsite, applying a 15% AAA discount, and the park tix we want discounted through UnderCover Tourist, comes to less than $1,500......think of all the extra cool stuff we could do with that savings!!!!!!!!!!

.

It doesn't work for mine, either!!:rotfl2: I mean, we'll be paying for this mostly out of our tax refund, but still.... I really didn't want to spend quite that much!

If we had a better vehicle and a bigger camper, I'd be all over staying at Fort Wilderness at a campsite!! That's by far the least expensive way to do Disney, and plus we enjoy camping and you just can't beat The Fort. I think that would be a fantastic way to spend 10 days! I could do a lot of our own food, and then just have to budget for one meal out while in the parks, and maybe a character meal or two. Very do-able.

Hmm...this may require more research....

.

Fort Wilderness would be FUN. You can rent campers, but that's around $85 a day not including site fee.

That's great, but is your vehicle up for that kind of trip? You said "if you had a better vehicle" What type of camper do you have?

Morning, everyone!

I have to head off to some appointments soon, so I just wanted to pop in and say hello.

LegoMom, good luck with the planning. Remember, part of the fun is pricing everything. I love that part. It's when you have so much possibility. :thumbsup2

Mean Queen, have a good time this weekend! I think Amanda's already gone right? I hope she has a good trip too.

My goodness this baby is all over the place this morning! LOL Sadie, I'll be happy to post a picture when I'm done. Actually, because of the size of the hook, I'm already halfway through which is awesome.

I also found a pattern for really cute hats with the ear flaps that I think I'll make for my nieces for Christmas. My soon to be 3 year old niece wears a hat I made her all the time (even though it's getting much too small) and tells my SIL, "Auntie Kat made me this, Auntie Kat made me this." So. Stinkin'. Cute.

So it's been one month since my Mom passed. I was at Nana's this week, and I discovered Mom had purchased the mini OPI nail polish set from Alice in Wonderland for me. So this morning, I painted my nails "Absolutely Alice," this insanely glittery blue, and I'm going to break out the Disney Dooney and Burke I bought during our January trip and use it.

I guess small things like this just make me feel closer to her. :littleangel:

I did look into renting a camper once, but the price of that on top of the site fee starts putting that cost up there with a Value resort, sometimes more. We have a nice little Coleman pop-up. It's basic but functional. We also have a large tent that I could bring for the kids (or, DH and I!).

As for the vehicle, we have a full-size van. It would probably do ok with the trip, it just has a lot of miles on it so we get nervous. But actually, DH just said we would be able to take the camp truck! It's newer than the van, still holds all of us (it's a double-cab), and plenty of room in the bed for all our camping gear. I'm all about this idea.:thumbsup2

Mornin' TK! I'm all for the sparkly blue nail polish. Have fun with it! It's nice you have these little things that remind you of Mom. I never met her, but I do believe she'd want you to be having fun.

I know Amanda is working this morning and then they leave, so not sure if we'll hear from her or not. She posted a pic on FB this morning of her hubby and son, and hubby was wearing Mouse ears.....

Brave man....

....this week was 'School Spirit' week, and today culminates in 'Crazy Hat Day', so what did I wear?

...yup, my DS's 'Aerosmith' chapeau:

I wouldn't go for the camper rental either. At that price, might as well get a room. FANTASTIC you could take the camp truck. We have a Viking Saga pop-up. How long is the drive?

I've always wanted to go that 1st week in december which is also my birthday week. I know some day I will make it. I've never been during the christmas season, and would love to see the lights. I had my DH all on board to go for my 40th bday, but turns out I was 8 months pregnant on my 40th... so we never made it. There's always next year.
Well... that's a much better price... I think theres always a way to make it work in your budget. We're sort of in the same boat..we're a family of 6. . That's how I got DH to let us go this year. my youngest is still 2 years old, and so he doesn't count towards the room... we're still able to "legally" fit into POR with the trundle bed. I told DH after he turns 3, we won't be able to go again as a whole family unless we either stay off property:scared1:.. or go to deluxe or cabins and then the cost jumps as well as my 2 oldest will be considered adults. so.. I told him, it's now or... who knows when.. we'll have to split up . 2 rooms, maybe a family suite at a value, the cabins, but I'm not much or a camper.. I hate to spend that much on a deluxe.. so we may have to go with another family, and have one of our kids on their reservation.. (like.. my sister who only has 1 kid.. and then we'd be ok)... I'm trying to find out more about the DVC.. but I don't think that works for us.. and it's a big investment up front. I hear you get "perks"... but honestly, I think sometimes the specials work out much better... one of my neighbors is a DVC owner and he goes every year, (tries to talk me into buying).. but he says since they own, and are not buying a package deal, then they can't take advantage of the free dining... they can buy a dining package, but then where's the advantage ?? Not sure.... BUT.. I have heard you can Rent points on a nice villa or 1 or 2 bedroom .. which would be nice, but the same applies... you can't take advantage of the special offers. SO.. I think we may be taking separate trips.. maybe mommy / daddy only.... mommy/son only.. and mommy/daughter only trips... I'm willing to make the sacrifice and go three times :thumbsup2 I'm sooooo glad it's friday.. and our company is closing early today! :yay:

It's just about 1,000 miles from here to Orlando. Easy 2-day drive (albeit boring....):drive:

We were really wanting to buy into DVC at one time, but at that point we lived in NH and going to FL often enough to justify it just wasn't an option (read: out of our budget!). For the upcoming trip, technically we could still do POR (where we usually stay) but I think I would pack an air mattress for one of the kids. While I'm not relishing the idea of keeping us all in one room, it would work if the kids insist they prefer it there (and not exactly a hardship for me!...I love that resort!!).

We'll see when the time comes to book....

I REALLY want to go to fort wilderness and camp out for a week. I think it would be so much fun! I have never been camping but I really want to do this. Unfortunately my husband must always rain on my parade and put his foot down as an absolute no on this idea. He says sleeping in a tent in 90 degree heat is not a vacation, I on the other hand think it would be awesome.

As much as I love camping and would love to camp at The Fort, I could not do so with 90 degree heat. Heat/too much sun makes me sick. Maybe your husband would consider it during a cooler time.

...is that staying at one of the cabins, or are you bringing an RV or setting up a trailer or tent?

LegoMom - have you looked into renting points at a DVC resort? Both BLT and AKV-Kidani fit 5 in a 1 bedroom. You'd have your own room (with jacuzzi tub) and the kids would have the living room. Plus, you would be able to make your own food in the kitchen to offset the cost of going deluxe. There is a DVC calculator on the DIS to help you figure out how many points you'd need. I think it's usually $10-$12 a point. It'd give you more room than the Poly and would probably be similar in cost.

Daisyyy - I've owned DVC for the past 4 years and love it. Since we live in Florida, we use our points for lots of little trips, booking villas to travel with friends and soon, we'll take our first cruise with points.

UGH!....Yuck. I couldn't do it in that heat either. If we camp, it'll be late Nov./early December. Would your DH do one of the cabins?...you get the feel of staying at Ft. Wilderness and doing all the camping stuff, but you're in a "room" with all the comforts and amenities of home!

We are on the road. See you all soon

Be safe and have a GREAT time!!

...is that staying at one of the cabins, or are you bringing an RV or setting up a trailer or tent?

No, that's a campsite!! The cabins are considerably more $$. We have a pop-up camper; no bathroom so we don't need a full hook-up site, which keeps the cost even cheaper.

Yes, I've looked into it and used the points calculator. Still comes out pretty pricey and to be honest, unless I'm camping (because it's just part of camping to grill out and such), I really don't want to be fixing meals while I'm on vacation!! I guess if you have DVC and go frequently, it makes sense, but with my once-every-2 or 3-years family vacations, I want to walk up to a counter and be served!:lmao:

Polish was a hit at work! My son, however, has other opinions.

"Mama...I don't like that."

"Okay."

"Let me see your toes."

::::TK shows toes with prettier, paler, less offensive polish:::

"I like those!" :lmao:

Kimmar, nice hat! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you niece would appreciate another hat. :thumbsup2

I had no idea she was wearing it so much until my SIL told me, so I'm happy to make her another one!

I couldn't handle that kind of heat, truthfully. I'm a party pooper. Give me a nice air-conditioned hotel!!! :lmao:

Have fun!!!

Even with frequent vacations, I'd prefer to walk up to a counter and be served, or even better, sit down at a table and have someone walk up and serve me.

Hey 'nanners!

Hope y'all are out doing something fun! Well, I know amanda is!:thumbsup2 We're sticking close to home this weekend. DH and I did a bunch of outdoor stuff earlier today but it was still really, really hot. I am beat. We're going to grill chicken, steak, burgers and hotdogs for dinner tonight. Probably head back to the pool this evening when the sun goes down!

I'm working on the next installment of my TR, for those of you following it. Should have it up late tonight or first thing tomorrow.
