If it's for your anniversary, I'd say go for the 1 bedroom at AKV. That way you and the hubby can enjoy the big king size bed and/or the jacuzzi tub. You can rent DVC rooms directly, but it usually is more than renting points.

**drooling**....King bed and jacuzzi tub?!......heck yeah, I'm all about that!!:thumbsup2

Actually, it's looking more and more like that trip may be our next one. The trip next November would be wonderful, but with all the van issues we've been having, it's almost a catch-22: we need a new van/truck to make that drive, but at this point it's either save for the trip or save for a new vehicle. It's kind of a no-brainer, sadly....:sad2: But on the flip side of that, if the anniversary IS the "next" trip we take, I'll have a good 2 years to save for it and when we do go, we'll go BIG!

Except I was really looking forward to just hanging out at the Fort for a week... *sigh*.....

Everything will have it's time and place. Don't sweat it. I don't really think Disney World is going anywhere. In 2 years, they will probably have most of the new Fantasyland done in MK.

I may be on to something new here. I just checked out the points system on the main DIS page. A 1-bedroom value at AKV runs around 114 points for a week in the off-season (all of September....our favorite time to go!). Back on the boards here, I went to the DVC rental forum. Most people sell their points for an average of $10/pt. So that's $1,140 for a week in a 1-bedroom at AKV! Considering one night at the Poly runs over $300, that's a deal!!

New Fantasyland in MK: hmm, I'm going to have to see it to make a final judgement. Right now all of the renderings I've seen make it far more appealing to girls. By the time we get there in 2012, my boys will be 10, 12 and 15!! (oh help.....). Not feelin' the princess love, kwim?!...:rotfl: (or, perhaps they will.....:scared:.....a 15-yr. old young man and all those lovely ladies??!!....:faint:).

I'm interested in what you said about renting from the DVC board. Is that always cheaper? We're going in January which is the off season so it would be cheaper to rent the point thats what. How exactly does that work?

Unfortunately the best advice I can give you is to go to the DVC forums and READ!!!! (you can also go to the main DIS page and look under the DVC menu...they actually have a points calculator to see how many you'd need for the trip you want). I'm still trying to sort it all out myself! I know that basically how it works is that DVC owners who have points they won't use can "rent" them to others. I really can't say if it's always the best deal, but I know in our situation, as a family of 5, our options otherwise are limited. We've done POR (and love it!) but to "move up" at all, we have to do the Poly or get a DVC unit (I don't know if there are other deluxe resorts that hold 5, but the Poly and AKL are our 1st choices). For smaller parties it may not work out to be "cheaper.":confused3 I'm just not that well-versed yet on the whole thing!

Well for the three of use it looks like its about 2,200 to say at AKL. And I feel a tad hesitant to spend that much on the room. But at 10 dollars a point (and i'm assuming it's around 140-180 points for the off season) it would still save me a quite a bit. I put up in thread over there so we'll see if I hear back!

What week are you going? What type of room are you looking at? Studio or 1-bedroom?

Hi

3 kids out with fevers today at daycare and another went home early with a fever. ICK

I helped my brother (the one that lives in walking distance to me) pick out a puppy Friday. It's a boy. :lovestruc An adorable, round bellied, light colored golden retreiver. He wanted to adopt one from an animal shelter, but around here puppies are scarce unless you are interested in a pitbull/mix. People are on waiting list for puppies and when they become available to be seen, you have to go that day or even right at opening or they are gone. That is difficult when people have to be at work. We visited the shelter 2 days after many became available and they were all adopted. The shelter started having volunteers drive south to pick up puppies and bring them to Maine to find homes. So after no luck at the shelter, we visited a local breeder. After loosing his 15 year old dog this summer, he couldn't wait any longer. He has been coming to visit my dogs or calls me to bring them down b/c he has been so lonely. 15 more days and he can pick up the fluff ball.

Happy Monday, ladies!

Or should I say...

babnanas???? :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Who missed me?

Come on, who????

:::crickets chirping::::

Hmph.

;)

LegoMom, sorry to hear you're having trouble with the horse. Mabye it just needs more time to adjust? And holy cow, you have a teenager!!! I can't believe your son is 13. Happy birthday to him! :goodvibes

See, I love hearing about your art classes. It brings back memories, you write about charcoal drapery any time you want!

How's everyone doing? Things are good here, just having a hard time getting on the DIS. :sad2:

The horse is settling in and doing much better, I'm happy to report. My plan is to ride him this week.

Thanks for the b-day wishes! I can't believe I have a teenager, either. I don't feel old enough to have a teenager!!:sad2:

Aww!....sounds so cute! Post pics when he gets him!

I had to give our dog a bath today.....he STINKS!!! The bath helped but I think I'm going to have to get some dry shampoo that you just sprinkle on and it smells good. He doesn't come in the house but my in-laws are coming in 2 weeks and I'm telling you, you could smell this dog coming a mile away!!

So Mean Queen, I went to Barnes & Noble today and stopped at the Starbucks inside.....and I ordered a Peppermint Mocha Frappuchino, all by myself!:rotfl:

This is Charm City Cakes in Baltimore, MD. DD & I went to Inner Harbor in Baltimore, MD today. This bakery is the scene for Ace of Cakes on The Food Network.

LOL! And was it yummy? Since I'm on weight watchers, I have to limit my peppermint mocha's, especially the black and white ones. The white chocolate has lots more calories than the regular. I try to stick to nonfat caramel macchiatos. Tasty, but a little less points. I am determined to lose weight, but I'm not going to totally suffer (aka give up Starbucks or other loves) to do it.

Cool! I love that show. They make some amazing looking cakes. I always wonder if those types of cakes ever taste as good as they look. Or is it just all show?

And rather than go back and keep quoting, I'll just say "Hi all!"

Welcome back TK! You were missed.

SadieDog - your brother's dog sounds very cute.

And someone did let teh Mondayz in. Glad it's over now.
