Tag along to a cocktail tasting?

I was able to book the champagne tasting but could only get one spot, which is fine because DH doesn't like champagne. But I was wondering if he could tag along while I do the tasting. Maybe drink a beer or something? Is that allowed?

I have never seen them allow “auditors” into a tasting.

It has happened that someone "just sits and doesn't participate". But, more likely, the answer would be "no". We've always been told, "if you want to come, you must have a ticket". Well, it's not really a ticket, but you must be on the list. And pay for it.

Works for me! He can hang with the kids while I sip champs. Win win.

Our two 18+ yr old daughters went to a Whiskey tasting with us and just sat there. No one said a word or raised an eyebrow. They had no desire to try the whiskey and made that very clear. No sure if that made a difference or not.

I sat in on the whiskey tasting DH did with no problem, so it can be done. Probably depends on the CM.

My best friend was pregnant on one of our cruises, so she could not do the champagne tasting with me. They let her sit with me, no problem!

I agree it probably depends on the CM at the time. However we have inadvertently sat in on Mojito Tastings twice now. We always spend the afternoon at CC at the Heads Up Bar. On our last 2 cruises there has been a mojito tasting going on while we were there and no one made us leave. In fact once, 1 man couldn't drink all the drinks so he gave 1 to us. :drinking1

I went with my husband to a couple of his Cognac tastings and sat there while he had fun.:) I did have a drink (or two) but I do not like Cognac at all. If they had a problem with it they never told me or my husband. Now, I just don't go but instead go see a movie with my son or hang out with both of my kids.

I was told by DCL anyone attending the tasting must pay. We have some non drinkers in our group, they'll do something else during that time.

It WAS a couple of years ago, so maybe they got a bit more strict on this requirement. :) I did buy drinks though which came close to how much the tasting cost...maybe that played a part in it.

We went to a tasting on the Fantasy in May. There were other passengers in the bar that were not part of the tasting.

I'm not sure. I remember ther were people sitting at tables. They were there before it started and stayed to watch.

Do they close the bar during a tasting?
Sort of. If the bar is open and there are people in there when they start setting up, they don't chase them out. But, they are often seated in a different part of the room then where the class is going on.

Once the tasting is going on, usually, people stopping by don't stick around.

It probably depends on the bar and the size of the tasting. When I did the champagne tasting in Ooh La La on the Fantasy, it was closed to anyone not doing the tasting.

When I did mixology on the Dream, it was in Skyline and it was closed to people not doing the tasting as we were at the bar and the bartender was running mixology. (And yes, there was a pregnant woman doing it with her husband and friends. She had a paid ticket, but her husband got her drinks.)

Well, Ooh La La often doesn't have many people in it. Unless it's busy with a trivia game in La Piazza.

I think Beth has it exactly!

I did the Cognac and the Whiskey tasting. Both were in the evening (like 10PM) in Meridian, and both were sparsely attended 4-6 people. They definitely didn't close the bar to other customers, we just went over to a section of tables and did the class. Also, for these, they did let non-participants observe. For the larger classes (like Mixology) or the smaller bars (like Oh La La), it makes sense that they do it differently.
