Tactical question on renewing APs mid-trip

So we will be staying at SS This Thanksgiving week, starting 11/22.

My wife and three kids have active APs that expire on 11/24. I let my AP expire a while back, and am intending on redeeming an AP voucher when we arrive at WDW.

How will this affect FP+, if wife & kids are making reservations for 11/22 and 11/23 on the old AP? Can they still make reservations 60 days out for the entire trip, even though their ticket media doesn't last the entire trip, by virtue of being a resort guest through 11/30? Or will they only be able to book FP+ for the first two days of the trip unless/until we renew their APs?

Should I just renew the passes on 9/24 (60 days before expiration) so there's no "gap" in the ticket media? Would this moot my concerns?

I don't want to wait for the

Confused. Any help would be appreciated.

FP+ reservations are based on tickets, not resort stays. You get magic bands for resort stays, but in order to make FP+ reservations for your whole trip at the 60 day mark, you would need to have your AP's renewed at that time you can reserve the FP+. If you waited until your trip to renew, you would only be able to make FP+ reservations for the few days of your trip that your old AP covers at the 60 day mark.

If your trip is around Thanksgiving, I would have the AP's renewed and ready to go at the 60 day mark to ensure that I got the FP+ reservations that my family wanted.

I agree. I was in the same situation and had the renew my annual pass to reserve fast passes after the AP expiration.

But I thought resort guests could reserve FP+ 60 days in advance? What if you are a resort guest but don't plan on buying your tickets until you arrive at the resort?

Must you also have valid ticket media on your MDE account when making the 60-day advanced FP+ reservations?

Yes.
