Tableware used at the different restaurants. Or am I too difficult?

While all my meals at WDW were rather good, I was amazed by one thing: the china/ tableware the meals came on!

At DLP, every restaurant has Villeroy & Boch tableware, exclusively designed for that restaurant. For example, at Walt's, it's white with a red border and some Mickey's in the classical border.
At l'Auberge de Cendrillon (Cinderella's restaurant), it has the birds and mice on, etc.

At WDW, it was just plain white. If I look at the pictures of food at V&A, it's not even matching tableware during the whole meal!!!

Am I the only one who noticed this and found it weird??

Not many resaurants in the US use decent tableware. As far as V&A I haven't eaten there but I'm sure it's fine china. The reason it doesn't match is probably because the trend here in the US (even in homes) is to mix and match patterns in table settings.

I'd love to get my hands on that china they use at DLP! I love fine china and dishware and have tons of it. Some of our every day dishes are V&B and they're great.

They sometimes do sell some of the tableware used in the restaurants at DLP... but if I can't find the ones I'm looking for... they'd better recount the plates from our table :rolleyes1

After hearing several crashes in the back, I am not surprised it doesn't match. They would have to restock the broken items at some point and most likely they wouldn't get the same pattern. As for silverware, there are probably enough guests that take some to cause them to have to do the same.

Do they sell it on-line??? OMG I want V&B Disneyware!

Unfortunately, they don't sell it. The backstamps say it has been exclusively designed for Disneyland Paris, and if they don't sell it, no way to get it (and they don't, except for some pieces, like a tea pot or so, no way to get a full "table" for 12!)

(yes, I did turn my plate around to get a look at the back stamps...)

Oh, and btw, some of the (regular) patterns are being sold for some decades now, so I can imagine they would be able to provide Disney with replacements.

PS: Guy Degrenne used to have Disney tableware in fine china... until last year that is, because they took it out of the collection then. Donaldson also has fine china Disney tableware (everything Donaldson is Disney!). It is very pretty, very classical (not like the ones you can buy at the theme parks or out of the Disney catalog) and very expensive :rolleyes1

Didn't I hear that one of the restaurants use fiestaware?

I think San Angel uses it. Not sure though since it is so dark in there you can barely see your food let alone the plate it is on!

Probably because people would steal them. :lmao:

I've never noticed the table setting actually, but I think people would be surprised at how much silverware/plates are stolen from restaurants. Not to get off topic, but I used to work at Outback and those big steak knives had to be replaced all of the time and salt and pepper shakers get taken too.

Hey, nothing like a "hot" souveneir! :teeth:

And I'm sure plain old white plates are more economical and won't make the manager have a heart attack everytime one gets broken. ;)

While OP is correct that most of the WDW restaurants use plain white plates...there is a trend that the food itself makes a 'artful' statement on the plate.

I haven't eaten at V&A's recently, but when I did, the china was very nice...I remember burgundy borders with gold trim and charger plates.

But it sounds like the china used in DLP is something to look forward to! (to eating on , not stealing :rotfl: )

You mean like the ones that come with the bread and the cute mini-cutting board? (Hides kitchen drawers). Sorry, my SO was a bit of a klepto in college!! :rotfl2:

If I'm not mistaken, V&A uses Royal Doulton for their place settings.

Yes, those ones. :rotfl2: :lmao:

I've noticed, though, that many of the lower-priced restaurants have switched to less expensive, more durable and heavier, stoneware. Still a lot better than the tableware at Applebees and Chili's.
