Just wondering if the villas have any sort of plates and cups etc suitable for small children, or should I bring my own? My 4 year old will be fine, but I'm not letting my 15 month old anywhere near the breakable stuff!!

On the same subject - what's the situation in the WDW restaurants? Do they provide the sort of plates that bounce, or do you take your own along?

No "plasticware" suitable for the kids that I can recall - at least not at BWV. Probably a good idea to bring your own.

If the Teppanyaki restuarant in EPCOT's Japan is any indication, the restaurants don't have non-breakable plates, either (although most seem to have plastic souvenir type mugs for children's drinks). I still remember the look of absolute horror on my DSIL's face when the waitress brought a clear glass plate for her 16 month old son. I think he got to eat his food off the very edge of the table that night - DSIL made sure he couldn't touch the grill itself, of course. LOL

Best wishes -

they definitely have paper plates (for the studios) - so I would explain your situation and ask housekeeping.

they should appreciate your concern for the breakable stuff.

Thanks - such quick replies! We'll be in a two bedroom - so will housekeeping mind bringing me some paper plates, as they aren't standard issue there!?!

Rather than pack our own plastic stuff, I'll probably get a big pack of paper plates and bowls instead - at least it's less washing up! We're using a shopping service, but as I'm unfamiliar with your brands, can anyone recommend some good quality ones. I would like to get the stuff that's a bit sturdier, rather than anything too flimsy.

In our 2BR at BWV, we had paper plates and plastic forks/knives/spoons in the studio kitchenette. So, if you have a 2BR Lockoff, you'll have them. :)

Not sure which we'll end up in, but I'm hoping we'll be in a dedicated - at OKW.

Bring the paper plates and disposable bowls for the whole family, you will be glad you did! :D

This may not be what you're looking for exactly, but there's a website called www.onestepahead.com that sells these self adhesive placemats for little ones that you just stick right to the table and can then put their food on that. They're really nice since the little one can't pick them up and throw everything on the floor and they keep the table and food clean. I always keep a pack in the diaper bag to use when we're at a fast food place etc. I just know that at 15 months, my DD thought a plate was simply a great vehicle for placing her food over her head! ;)

I've actually had my kids use the plastic containers that are stocked in the kitchen. The container works pretty well as a bowl and the lids work OK as plates.

In a pinch, it's better than risking the breaks!

That's a very good idea, jerrb. And mom2alix - I've been meaning to thank you for telling me about those table toppers. I'll definitely be looking into those.:D

And just so I can really be prepared - can anyone recommend a good brand of sturdy paper plates etc!

We love these. I have used them for my youngest DDs. They are great for dining out because they stick on the table and you can just spread all of the little finger foods on it. No broken dishes or plates thrown on the floor. Easy clean up as well.
You can find them now at most Baby Stores, ToysRUs as well as most Walmarts and Targets.
These mats and disposable bibs are staples in my Diaper bag.

Ditto on the disposable placemats - I pick them up from Babies-R-Us and always have a few in the diaper backpack. I am constantly amazed at waitstaff who put tall glass cups full of liquid right in front of my toddler! On the other hand, I'm sure our table for four looks ridiculous since all of the food, cups, and everything else is basically moved to a jam-packed half of the table out of arms reach while the other half is pretty much empty except for my Elmo placemat!

LOL - it's so true. They're such small people, but they do take over a LOT of space.

I don't know if anyone answered your brand question, but for really sturdy paper plates I use Chinet brand. They're pretty heavy-duty. For the kids, I also buy Zoo-pals plates. They're printed with animal faces and have two little separate areas (the ears) that are handy for ketchup or small side items. My DD loves these and will clean her plate to see what animal she has this time. Hope this helps!:)
