I have a tablet but will looking for a new one for me later this year. Which ones are going to be the newest and best deal. We've had Kindles and some other brands and we've found you get what you pay. Will need at least 8.9 inch and 32g. Love our Kindles and grandson has a I Pad from his school but there's such a big price difference (glad we did not have to pay for the I Pad). So what's coming out and what prices ?

We have an Ipad (for the family) and last year bought DS8 a Kindle Fire for his own personal use. That way I could keep the content specific to him easier and he wasn't always draining the battery down on the iPad. The Kindle seemed great for the price and loved the concept of Free Time app.

Fast forward a year. I HATE HATE HATE the Kindle Fire. It is so cumbersome and hard to navigate. The battery life stinks. DS doesn't like most of the apps. He hardly ever uses it. I should have just gotten him an iPad mini like I had planned but I cheaped out. You definitely get what you pay for!

Shame too because I love Amazon prime and I love my Kindle reader. But I guess since we were so used to the iPad, the Kindle Fire was just a huge disappointment.

Try a Google search; you can easily find this information yourself.

Have you checked Amazon? New Kindles were recently announced.

Why pay more?

We have 3 of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9". I LOVE them. DS8 has downloaded hundreds of games and if he runs out of space, we just delete games he's tired of and he downloads more. The other games are always in his account, ready to be downloaded again if he wants them back. Amazon has given us free account credits to buy music and/or games. We've never had that happen with iTunes!

Actually, I've heard that Apple products have issues with low battery life and it was an advantage for Amazon that Kindles have better battery life. DS8 could play games on his for hours (if we let him) before he would have to plug in. Then, he could just plug in and keep playing.

Amazon has a Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" this year for $379. I like mine just fine & would recommend looking for a deal on Amazon for an older version.

I do like the deal with the kids' version that comes with a bumper and a 2 year replacement if they break it, but it's a smaller screen. Ours have been pretty sturdy but DS8 recently cracked the screen on his by throwing it down purposefully (it still works).

I like my Nexus tablet. My daughter who has an iPad mini, also likes my Nexus better :lmao:

The way I would tackle the research is to identify what tablets you would consider today, given their specs and reviews. Then Google to see what the rumors are regarding new versions of those.

You heard wrong. We have an iPad4, iPad Mini Retina, an iPad Air and two Kindle Fire HDs. The iPads run circles around the Kindles when it comes to battery life, if and when you can even get the Kindles to take a charge. If you google "Kindle Fire not charging" you'll find a ton of threads right on Amazon. They are aware of the issue and have pretty much ignored it.

iPads beat the Kindles in performance and endurance as well. I've had to have both of my kids Kindles replaced at the one year mark and the "new" ones, not yet a year are barely limping along. As a PP stated they are clunky and hard to navigate. Quality apps for the Kindles are few and so buggy it's ridiculous. I want to beat my head against a wall rebooting and trying to get them to work right. I should have just ponied up for the iPad Minis in the first place it would have saved me a ton of frustration and the initial investment of the Kindles that have zero resell value. Paying more in this case, for me means years more life and Apple Products maintain a pretty good resell value. The new iPads will come out next month and the current ones will drop $100. Then the Black Friday Sales usually offer a $100 gift card making the 32GB rMinis $300.

I have a nexus 7 and I love it. I also have an ipad 2 that I "gifted" to my husband. I way prefer my nexus :) I believe a brand new nexus 9 is coming out in the next month or so. Good luck in your decision, I would go somewhere where you can play with a bunch of different ones.

Don't get a Galaxy Tab 4 7". Very disappointed in the processing speed, and the size is just small enough to be awkward. Nothing beats our Ipad2.

New iPads are rumored to be announced near the end of October. If this happens, the price will drop on older models. You might want to wait.

I have an iPad Air and it is fantastic.
