Tables in Wonderland...Passholder discount?

Are these the same thing?

Can someone explain this to me, please. I'm confused. If you get an annual pass at WDW, and it includes a passholder discount for dining, what would you need to buy this membership for?

Easy to be confused about this.

• The AP discount isn't available in as many restaurants as TiW. You'll want to check the lists to see if the restaurants you like are included.
• The AP discount is often not as much as TiW.
• The AP discount may be limited to certain meal times (i.e. lunch)
• The AP discount does not apply to alcohol.

Table in Wonderland can also get you compensated for valet parking at the resorts for dining purposes - AP does not. When dining with TiW, you show your receipt to the valet and they comp the parking price, gratuity not included. (Sometimes they want to keep the receipt, check with the valet attendant when parking)

Also, for those who do not have APs, but have TiW, you can also get comp'd parking for parking in theme park parking lots.
Note: there are holiday block outs with TiW.

This year, an AP is offering 20% off at certain locations for the 45th anniversary. Since TiW is an extra expense, it may not make sense for some people to buy it with the AP promotion. If you plan on multiple trips within 365 days, TiW is likely a good idea.

You need to spend $750.00 on food to recoup the cost of the TIW...20% off food and alcohol for certain restaurants...AP is 20% off of food at designated restaurants through September then will drop back to 10% - alcohol is not included
We used to get the TiW card when it first came out and it was much less expensive, but with cost increases we can no longer justify the cost for us - we just don't eat that much and don't want to feel we are tied to the restaurants that offer the discount so we can recoup our cost...we are AP holders and use that when we can.

For my wife and I, the TIW card has been a great boon. Given the number of days we'll be on property and the types of restaurants we like.....plus the ability to include up to 10 others on the discount.....that $750 break even (which I do believe is accurate) hasn't been hard for us to meet. But one must keep in mind how you tour/eat at WDW. It doesn't add up as well for every one.

And the expanded ap dining discount is relatively new, and could go away.

It is going away, on 9/30/2017. Disney could extend it though.... I would not plan for anything other than the previously listed 10% off locations starting in October.

Here's what my thinking is...

We're visiting next March for 7 days. I have 5day park hoppers for 4 of us. My husband and I are DisneyLAND APs (expire in January 2018). I'm considering upgrading my husband and my's 5-day hoppers to Premier passports (we would do this on day one so we can get the dining discount, merchandise discounts, and parking up front).

I expect us to spend at least $1200 on dining for the 4 of us at WDW in March. So if the passport alone will get us a decent discount, I'd prefer to not buy another membership.

It very much depends on where and when you'll spend that $1200 on. And how much of that would be alcohol?

Agree. I'm upgrading to an AP when we arrive and had thought that buying TiW was a given until looking at our anticipated dining locations and the how they aligned with the anniversary discounts. We're driving and can bring our preferred adult beverages for evenings, then club level will contribute on our last half.

We're likely to spend 1800ish on food/drinks for the 5 of us for 10 days. When I think of the cost to upgrade, then the cost of TiW, I wonder how advantageous the latter is with the promotion. I'm torn, too, so I know how you feel. There are two places that only TiW discount covers in our plans, so I'm going to stick w/ AP...I think.

I've always had TiW because the discount was more, included alcohol and had more options. When they added the Anniversary Dining Discounts for AP we did not get a new TiW in January BUT I will likely get a new one come fall. I have found I used the AP one at some QS locations that never had discounts before but it rarely worked for TS locations for me and no alcohol.

I think you need to look over the list for each and see which will give you a better value. You are spending enough to make it worth your while if your dining locations are better than with AP. And again, will that include alcohol? Disney prices on alcohol are nuts so if you want to drink with meals it helps.
