With an AP this card costs $75 and offers a discount of 20% on most food and beverages correct?

So to break even for the cost of the card would one have to spend $375 on food and beverage for theri entire trip?

Just want to make sure I have this right.

You are correct! I suggest looking at some menus and try to choose where you think you would like to eat and what you would eat. You can then see if it's worth it for you. Remember it also includes the discount on alcoholic beverages during dining and also at the lounges.

is that several restaurants have been recently added to the TIW list including locations at the Swan and Dolphin resorts. A couple of Blue Zoo surf and turfs and the $375 is almost done.

It's not suggested that guests join TIW for one trip (unless they're bringing lots of people and spending lots of money on TS food and booze). Annual passholders often make multiple trips in a year and that's what it's best for. If you're considering it for a single trip, you'll need to add up where you plan to eat, how many people, what they might order, whether drinks in bars will be consumed, etc. to see if you'll get your money's worth out of the membership.

We just bought the TIW on Feb 5, 2010 and it's good through Mar 31, 2010. I kept track of the savings and (with 6 adults most meals) we saved $221. You do save the tax on the discounted amount as well. Say the total is $100, you will pay the sales tax on only $80. I know not much but still a savings.

I really wish it included more counter service restaurants. We only eat at 1-2 table service per trip, but if it included counter service, we'd definitely get our money's worth....

Me too, that's the good thing about staying at a Value with the TIW. AK has a few as well.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily.

100.00 - Original Amount
20.00 - Discount
80.00 - Subtotal
18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Assuming you normally tip 18%, the computation without TiW is:

100.00 - Original Amount
18.00 - Gratuity
6.50 - Sales Tax
124.50 - Total Amount

Therefore there is a savings, including tax, of $21.30 for every $100.00 of menu price.

Don't forget also that the discount also applies to any alcoholic beverages you might have and you get free valet parking (where available) when you eat.

We usually do a table service for dinner every night. What I like about TIW is that unlike DDE, you are not limited to what you can eat (DDE: entree, dessert and non alcohol bev). We also usually tip 20% so the 18% is a savings except during exceptional service we will tip more (DDE does not include gratuity anymore). Our last vacation, I added up our receipts for all food purchases including snacks, drinks and counter service meals that were not discounted. Our total was approximately $40-$50 more than if we purchased the DDE for the length of stay but it included all our tax and gratuities. So in the end, TIW definitely works for us!:)

I think you mean DDP (Disney Dining Plan), DDE (Disney Dining Experience) used to be what TIW discount card was called up until a year or 2 ago.

Yup! You're right. Sorry about that. Goes to show you that I havent used the plan in awhile!

Do you have to purchase only one card per party (there will be 2 of us)? So for the 2 of us we would only purchase one card at $75? We are going for 11 nights and plan to eat quite a bit. I appreciate the breakdown of saving 21.30 on $100.

My mom will be eating with us on part of the trip. Can we use the discount on her meals too if we are paying? Only 2 of us will have annual passes.

I am not good with all this math. I had thought of buying 1 day park tickets to buy the dining plan but it seems the Table in Wonderland card is the way to go ???? (We are getting free annual passes.)

thanks

One Tables in Wonderland card is good for up to 10 peaople. The cardholder just has to be present so you only need 1 card. For us the TIW card works out better than the DDP because we don't really order the desserts or drinks. Free dining is another story but with a Value.

We're going for 10 nights in July. This is our only trip this year (we go every other year). So if we were to get the TIW card it would only be used for this year's trip.

Right now we have 7-day passes for the 4 of us, no park hoppers. We are DVC members so if one of us were to upgrade to the AP, it would be $100 off the normal AP price for a non-FL resident. Then it would be $75 to purchase the TIW card. As of now we have the basic DDP on our reservation. Anyone think it would be more worth it to upgrade one person to an AP, and get the TIW card? I will have to sit down and do some math.

As far as the AP, Not sure. You do get it 100 off so that may factor in. With the TIW, you have to spend about 375 to break even anything over that is savings. Will you eat at tha many TS and the few cs to save that much? Also, since you will be there 10 days you will benefit from the AP to go in other days plus the park hopper bonus. Crunch the numbers based on what you think you will do!

I already crunched the numbers and it looks like the TIW card and one of us upgrading to the AP would work out better! We have a lot of TS scheduled and I based the savings on only getting an entree and beverage, the cheapest items on the menu. Yes, I am aware that when we get more expensive things we will be paying more, but we will also save more.

Now, I already have my Disney tickets. How do I upgrade to the AP, still being able to get the DVC $100 off, and get the TIW card?

Glad you will make out better! The TIW is usually good a little over a year (ours purchased 2/5/10 good through 3/31/11) If you plan to return even after the year, you will have the card. They don't ask for the AP when using TIW!!

Do you need to preorder the TIW Card? Last time we picked one up right inside Hollywood Studios, can I get this at the World Showcase entrance to EPCOT too?

Thanks!
