Table for Three at Sci Fi

I really want to have lunch at Sci Fi on our next trip - not expecting great food but the atmosphere just looks so much fun! We will likely be a party of 3 adults, however. How would we be seated? I'm assuming two rows in a car and someone will be largely solo for the meal. How have others dealt with odd numbers?

yes.....2 in one row and 1 in another.....at least if it is 3 adults.
We have done it a couple of times and doing it again in Jan.

They are so close it doesn't matter. The food is not bad....

if you do the cars, 2 adults in one row and 1 in another row..you will be right behind each other. Very close. However, you can opt for the umbrella table instead for 3 of you to sit around, but it not as fun as the car. Food is not bad either. Milkshakes are awesome!

As a group of 3 adults we have always been seated in the first 2 rows of a car. With the movie clips and cartoons on the screen to watch there is less conversation than in a regular restaurant so the seating arrangement is fine. There are some small picnic tables in the back and some larger tables with the front and back of a car among the regular cars that are wheelchair accessible. The food is pretty good - we like the sandwiches and fried pickles.

Agree with the above on seating. I have been odd man out in next row, and while I could have talked with the folks in front of me I did find it awkward. Have sat at the picnic tables and actually enjoyed them and had good conversation.

We enjoy the food as long as we stick with burgers, reubens etc. I tried the steak once, not again. Have good shakes and several very good desserts. Heading down in October and it was the only place I was worried about getting.

We've been a party of three at sci-fi too. As the others said we were the first two rows of the car and we had a "hitchhiker" in the back row. Didn't feel awkward or uncomfortable for us but we were there to eat and watch the clips with mild chit chat... If you are the type that would prefer a steady conversation through a meal then I suggest requesting one of the picnic tables at the back of the restaurant.

With my husband, me, and our son, we have always been a party of three. Some say the seats are too far apart for normal conversation but I disagree. We've always been able to talk to our son (he chose to sit alone - how rude!) and when we took the entire family later on - we had the whole car - that pesky kid now had kids of his own! - we had the grandkids in front of us in the front seat and we were able to hear their entire conversation and talk to them throughout the meal. Well, when they weren't enjoying the screen stuff. One of the best meals ever.

Thank you all for the advice! I'm looking forward to a good burger and shake. My MIL thinks Sci Fi is a horrible idea but can hopefully be talked down somewhat. In any event, I'm happy to be the hitchhiker for an hour and sit back and relax while the complaining goes on in the other seat!

It is probably the most themed restaurant at all of Disney World. One day we were walked to our car by the manager and he began telling us the story of the design. At one point he said this was the view out of the Disney Studios windows ..... it's just imagineering at it's best.

I sat in the back behind DD and her friend, and it was very easy to hold a conversation. The "table" between you isn't very deep.

When DH & I were there in May we were seated in a car with a family of three. They had the first two rows and we were in the back row. The family was really nice and it was cute to chit-chat with them towards the end of the meals. I love Sci-Fi Diner!

It's one thing to have communal seating at Biergarten or on a cruise - communal tables are the traditional rule there. But in a sit-down restaurant like that? Pass with gusto.

I never found sharing a car to be bad--they don't have you share a row. Scifi is my favorite restaurant at wdw because I love old scifi movies and grew up going to drive ins. I don't really consider it a sit down restaurant, either. It's fast food with an amazing theme unless you're optimistic (foolish?) enough to order anything but a burger/sandwich and shake.

It's really not that bad. We sat in the third row, kept to ourselves and enjoyed the atmosphere. Barely noticed the family in front of us!

I've never talked to or noticed the others in the car. I've actually found it much less awkward than Biergarten. We are friendly there but have had table mates that were ......

We also are a family of 3 and I don't mind sitting in my car seat alone. Sci-fi is a must for us, we really like the food there. The atmosphere is so much fun and the shakes are fantastic!

Pretty much any party that has less than 6 people is going to have "hitchhikers." But, as PP said, it's much less intrusive there than somewhere like Biergarten. The cars have three rows, all facing forward toward the screen in the front, and each row seats two. So, while you might see the backs of the heads of the people in front of you, you're not interacting with them at all. We usually just travel with two of us, so we're typically in the front, with people behind us (in which case you don't see anyone else at all), or we're in the very back with two rows ahead of us, but that has never bothered us either.

I think it's just that people actually call those put in the odd row out from their party "hitchikers" that I find off-putting.
