See - I HAVE done a food report!! (Well I've made a start)

Thanksgiving meal at O’hanas
This was our first time at O’hanas. We had an ADR for 7.40 and arrived in plenty of time. We had asked for a window seat but were seated one row back from the window and next to the aisle. We could at least see the Magic Kingdom Castle (well we could after I moved the table a bit). It was noisy and very busy, but we were served promptly.
It was a Thanksgiving meal of turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, salad, bread rolls, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce (Tony put big dollops of the cranberry sauce on the bread rolls and ate them as he thought it was strawberry jam!).

The food was quite good considering they were serving so many people. The turkey was moist and the mashed potatoes were lovely and creamy (we did an Oliver Twist and asked for more of these). We also really loved the stuffing which we hadn’t had before. Dessert was pumpkin bread pudding with vanilla and Marsala custard and vanilla ice-cream. This was delicious and the flavours really complimented each other. We weren't very disciplined and ate it before we thought about taking a photo! We would have had more but we were stuffed. We just managed to squeeze in a coffee each. We asked for Kona coffee because we had this last year at the Kona Cafe and it was lovely. However, this one was far too weak so you couldn’t really tell what it was. We would have asked them to change it but we wanted to get down to the beach to watch the fireworks so we didn’t bother.
Overall:
Total Bill including tip (DDE card not accepted as it was Thanksgiving) $85
Food: 8/10 Location 9/10 Service 9/10
Would we eat here again? Possibly.

Lunch at Le Cellier
Again, this was our first time. We were so glad we had an ADR as it was fully booked all day and people were being turned away. (It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the park was very busy).
I was surprised at how small the restaurant is. It gives it a nice cosy feel. I had read many times that the tables are too close together, but it really wasn’t too bad. (Although we did get some funny looks from the two couples either side of us when we started taking pictures of the food).
The meal was excellent, as was our server. He explained the different items on the menu and was very knowledgeable and chatty.
We both chose the famous Cheddar Cheese soup to start. This was thick and very cheesy and was delicious with the bread sticks. It would be even nicer poured over pasta – I’ve already looked up the recipe and I’m going to try it!

Next, I had the BBQ sliced prime-rib sandwich on garlic buttered sourdough served with French Fries. The meat was melt-in-the-mouth and the bread soft and yummy. The French fries were a surprise – instead of skinny fries they were big fat ones like proper English chips, and they were cooked just right – nice and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the middle. Perfect.

Tony chose the seasonal pasta dish which was Shrimp and Scallop Pasta. He enjoyed this – the pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauce was creamy. His only criticism was that it was a little over-seasoned for his taste (he doesn’t like too much pepper). Otherwise it was excellent.

Florida2007a075.jpg

For dessert, I chose the Creme Brulee, and Tony had the Chocolate “Moose”.
Creme Brulee is one of my favourite desserts, and this was a good example. The topping had just the right crispy-crunchiness and the creamy bit was velvety smooth. Yummeeeeee

Florida2007a079.jpg

Tony LOVED his “Moose”. He is a connoisseur of chocolate mousses and said it was his second favourite chocolate mousse ever, behind the one that I make, but I think he was just being tactful!

Total Bill including tip and using DDE card $64
Food: 8/10 (Tony), 9/10 (me) Location: 9/10 Service: 10/10.
Would we eat here again? Definitely.

Lunch at Yak and Yeti
This restaurant had only opened a week earlier and the server said it was still on a “soft opening” so no ADR’s, just walk-ups, and they were still experimenting with the menu.
We were seated upstairs which was nice as it was quite quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the park.
Our server was very good. He went through the menu with us and chatted to us about the restaurant in general. We skipped the starters as we had an ADR for Boma that evening and didn’t want to be too full to enjoy it.
I chose Crispy Mahi Mahi with sweet and sour sauce, jasmine rice and stir-fried vegetables. This was lovely; the fish was cooked just right, the sauce was nice and spicy and it was good to have vegetables served with a meal for a change.

Florida2007b030.jpg

Tony had Crispy Honey Chicken served with brown rice and stir-fried veg. He loved this; the brown rice offset the sweetness of the honey making a nice contrast.

Florida2007b029.jpg

I tried a bit and it was even nicer than my Mahi Mahi.
For dessert, we shared the Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons served with vanilla ice cream and honey vanilla sauce. There were two skewers so it is an ideal dish to share, and easily big enough. The sweet honey sauce was perfect with the tangy pineapple and juicy strawberries and we loved the creamy wontons. I was tempted to lick the sauce off the plate. (I didn’t – there were people nearby).

It does like heavenly. That might have swung it for Le Cellier as location for our anniversary meal next year

Boma 25th November 2007
This restaurant at Animal Kingdom Lodge is popular with families and is therefore very noisy and busy and probably not the best choice for a quiet meal for two but we had been here before and wanted to see if they still had our favourite things on the menu.
We had an ADR for 7pm and were seated promptly in the middle of the restaurant. Our server was very efficient at clearing plates away and bringing us fresh drinks but unfortunately wasn’t very informed about the menu.
I started with Chicken Pepperpot Soup which was delicious (I have already looked this recipe up to make at home). Then I chose some Nut-Crusted Salmon which was too dried up, then the curried chicken stew (which is really a soup, I think, but is quite thick).
Florida2007b134.jpg

I make this at home from the Disney recipe and it tasted just the same except it was a bit thinner. I had jolluf rice with it which was nice but not as good as the sticky peanut rice they have served in the past. The stir-fried vegetables I chose were good too – cooked until tender but not soggy. (I hate soggy veg!)
Tony had a plate of Chicken stew and rice then a plate of Crusted Prime-rib, roast chicken, roast pork and roast potatoes. His verdict was that it was all ok, but nothing special.
Next – the desserts!
I had left plenty of space for these!

Florida2007b136.jpg

I tried: Melk Tart – a sort of vanillary custard tart on a pastry base (very nice, I love anything vanilla flavoured; Two types of Zebra Dome – orange and white, both yummy; Fruit Tartlet – filo pastry with custard in and a strawberry on top, also yummy; Pineapple-upside-down-Cheesecake – really delicious creamy cheesecake with a white chocolate base; Flour-less Chocolate Cake – ok but could have been richer; Chocolate Mousse – lovely and chocolatey with bits of chocolate in.
Next plate: Banana Bread pudding with vanilla cream (Theresa) and with Chocolate rum sauce (Tony). Very nice, just the right amount of banana flavour, though the vanilla sauce could have been more vanillary. The chocolate rum sauce was really good; Tony says he would go back there just to have that!
Florida2007b137.jpg

OMG I have just looked at this photo and realised I missed a dessert! This was Tony's plate and he had the apricot crumble and I didn't!
Next plate! Tony had some fresh fruit, but, obviously, I had more desserts to try! (Remember, they are all very small!)
Florida2007b135.jpg

I had: Orange-Almond Cheesecake, - very good, nice and creamy cheesecake and lovely orangey flavour;
Florida2007b138.jpg

Cassava cake – a sort of rice bottom layer with a coconut layer on top – not particularly nice, it had an odd texture; Crunchy D’Nizi – some kind of fruit, a bit like a banana but not a banana flavour, sprinkled with brown sugar and nuts, again a bit odd.
Florida2007b139.jpg

I wouldn’t choose either of these last two again and I felt very sorry for the poor man standing next to me at the dessert counter who was on a special diet of some kind and was told that these two were the only ones suitable for him!
We finished with coffee, though we were really disappointed to find they only do instant coffee now instead of the pressed-pot coffee they used to serve.
Overall
Total Bill: $55 including tip and using DDE card
Food: Varies – some things get 10/10 some only 2/10!
Location: 7/10 It’s noisy and busy
Service: 8/10
Would we eat here again? Yes, but it’s not top of our list.

Mythos – Islands of Adventure – 26th November 2007
Mythos is our favourite theme-park restaurant, so we were really looking forward to having lunch here. We had made a reservation earlier in City Walk on our way to the park as we didn’t want to risk not getting a table, though when we got there it was actually very quiet.
Our server was excellent; he was very knowledgeable regarding the menu and nothing was too much trouble.
We started with Butternut squash soup with white truffle emulsion and a spoonful of mashed potato in the middle with mushrooms on top. This was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS, especially with the Rosemary and potato bread that was served with it.

Florida2007b198.jpg

Next, Tony chose the filet steak with mushroom mashed potato and truffle foam, served with asparagus, mushrooms, crispy onion straws and grape tomatoes. His mouth is watering just thinking about it! Everything was just perfect – juicy steak, cooked to perfection, absolutely melt-in-the-mouth, creamy mash.

Florida2007b203.jpg

I chose the Risotto of the day which was creamy parmesan risotto with pesto chicken, asparagus, mushrooms and grape tomatoes. This was utterly delicious, the best risotto I have ever had (and I’ve had a lot of risottos!) :goodvibes Super creamy and a fabulous mix of flavours.

Florida2007b202.jpg

For dessert, we both had the Mythos signature dish – the Flourless chocolate gooey cake with peanut butter ice-cream, caramel sauce and banana slices. These are all my favourite flavours on one plate! I am trying not to drool as I type. The cake is served warm with molten chocolate in the middle which oozes out when you cut into it. Delicious.

Florida2007b205.jpg

For Drinks we had non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri and pina colada. Both lovely and refreshing.

Florida2007b204.jpg

Tony asked for a floating coffee as he has an obsession for them and asks for one in nearly every restaurant we go to. The problem is most people don’t know how to make one. Here, however, they tried very hard to get it right. Our server went away to ask the bar manageress, who was from Ireland, and she came over to see us to ask how to make it. She tried her very best, but they didn’t have the right cream to float so it wasn’t quite right. Ten out of ten for effort though.

Florida2007b207.jpg

Our server even went out of his way to show us the dessert shots after we had finished our meal.

Florida2007b206.jpg

Sorry this is out of focus, it was only a quick snap shot.

Overall
Total Bill including big tip and using our annual pass discount $80
Food: 10/10
Location: 10/10 (though the park was very quiet, which helped)
Service: 10/10
Would we eat here again? Absolutely. Try keeping us away! This was our favourite meal of the whole trip. I’m not surprised this has been voted best theme park restaurant in the world for five years running.
