Our first trip home is this coming weekend and I have a quick question - was reading through our guidebook and the housekeeping procedures... What do you do with your kitchen garbage when it becomes full before the service comes? Do we take it to a designated area or how is that handled? My mom remembers when we stayed at the VWL on a cash basis back in 9/01 that garbage bags where in the hall outside of doors? Does housekeeping then pick them up?

Also, you either reuse or wash the towels before new ones are presented with T&T and then they will give you new ones on day 4?

Any other words of wisdom for us first time DVC'ers? :)

Thank you in advance...

Annette

I usually empty my own trash since it fills up prior to T & T day. I just take it to the designated place, no big deal.

I wash towels every night!!! By the end of the 2 week stay we end up with alot more towels then we started with.....Seems housekeeping does not remove towels on T & T day or for that matter can't because mine are usually already in the wash!! Also we end up with a few pool towels since we usually run from the pool when the afternnoon storms hit and my girls are wrapped in the towels!! Those end up in the wash and back with us at the pool the next day!!

Annette....I know that at VWL there is a room marked "Trash/Recycling" in the hallway on every floor. It is in the longer hallway, at the end closest to the elevators. I have taken trash there.

Leaving the trash outside your room in a bag is inappropriate. I'm sure that housekeeping would pick it up, but it's not the way to handle the trash.

I hope you have a wonderful trip and completely enjoy VWL. I advise you to take advantage of the free valet parking, especially at check in. It's a bit of a hike from the parking lot if you're carrying all your stuff!

Enjoy! :)

thanks for the tips so far - Granny - I'm glad to hear there is a designated place - seeing the garbage (and stuff from room service) in the halls wasn't the best...

We are looking forward to the valet parking :) This is our third stay here but the first as DVC members!

And thank you to the other poster about the towels - I had forgot there are towels out at the pool.

Any other advice?

My only other advice is that if you are around the resort when it gets dark, you might want to stake out a spot on the little beach there near the marina. Grab some beverages and wait for the Electrical Water Pageant....it's very nice and the kids usually play around in the sand while we wait. You might want to bring bug spray too...those we were only bothered by bugs one time so far.
Have a wonderful stay!:)
