After a week in Disney, we're taking a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas, then it's back to Disney for one last day. On that last day we're not going to be on the dining plan. We'll be staying at Coronado Springs and probably spending like 1/2 the day at Magic Kingdom. For dinner we'd like to try something different. We're thinking of maybe going over to DTD and check things out. I haven't really seen any reviews on the T-REX restaurant. How was the food? Atmosphere? Will it be suitable for 12 and 13 yr old boys? Or too young?

We had dinner there on SuperBowl Sunday. It was me, DD14, & my mother. (DH, DS10, & my father were off watching the game somewhere).

We had a 6pm reservation & waited only about 5 minutes to be seated. It took about 10-15 minutes for our order to be taken though. I'd read on the DIS that the food was expensive, & yes, it is. DD14 & I both just wanted the Nachos appetizer as our meal ($13.99) so we split it. My mother ordered some type of quesedilla appetizer for her meal. It took almost an hour for our food to be brought out.

The Nachos were very good & HUGE! DD14 & I could not finish them.

After we'd eaten, it took forever for our waitress to come back. We finally flagged her down & got our check.

We are going to return this summer because DS10 wants to come this time. I know he'll like it. I don't think your boys are too old for it. My DS will be 11 in three days & I know he'll like it.

DD14 has already decided that she & her friend are going to dine there & do the "Build-a-Dino when they come to WDW for their graduation trip in two years. (She's busy planning their whole trip even though it's not until June 2011 :rotfl: ).

*Oh, & if you're a DVC member, you get 10% off each entree. We did not, as we just got appetizers.

We went for lunch in Dec with our kids(10,6,2) and my kids loved it. Food was pretty good. We had burgers and sandwhiches. Very cool theme. Would go again.

I went in November and came away with only a so-so opinion. Maybe they were still working some kinks out because they had just recently opened but here are some of the things I remember best:

1) The food was unremarkable when compared to Rainforest. I found the menu offerings to be a little sparse, but kids don't mind that. I had the mushroom ravioli and it was okay. The best part of the meal was dessert. They have some kind of chocolate monstrosity that resembles the volcano at Rainforest and it was super! The kids loved it to because it came with some dry ice in a shaker in the center and the plate became all smoky; it does run around $15 though.

2) The theme is great and the decorations are very well done. However, it seemed like they had the speakers turned up WAY too loud. They may have fixed this being that no one else has commented on it but I could not believe how loud it got, especially during the meteor shower. It is not nearly that loud at Rainforest.

Your boys should love it though. My boys did (7,9) but it was too scary for my girl (3 at the time). If it's all about the kids you'll enjoy this place no matter what.

We stopped by for lunch in November and had no wait, but I've read that they are taking reservations now. We each ordered a sandwich but we could have split one as they were huge and they came with fries. I thought they were quite tasty.
The theming is intense and very well done. We sat in the coral reef room and it was really cool. :cool2: There is a high demand for the ice cave room as that's where the periodic meteor shower turns the room from ice blue to flaming red. Yes, it is very noisy, and your kids should love it!

Just wondering..... did anyone else experience an hour wait to get their food? I noticed one person mentioned that earlier in this thread. My DH and DS wouldn't be able to swing an hour wait for food when they're really hungry.

I went to T-Rex during their first opening week. I have to say that the service was outstanding, the food quite tasty and was presented nicely, and the atmosphere pretty cool. I would go back for sure.

How many different themed areas do they have, what are they? Where exactly is it in DD? Is the lunch menu different from the dinner? Which would you prefer?

We had dinner at TRex on Friday, 2/6. I did make reservations before we left....good thing, the place was packed! We thought the food was good...and the portions were huge. It is expensive, along the same line as Rainforest is. And it's loud in there. Dinos everywhere, roaring every few minutes and the meteor shower every 15 minutes (I think).

We sat in the back of the restaurant, next to the Ice cave. There are different areas in the restaurant, not really "rooms". They have the bar, with a huge squid-thing overhead, and huge aquariums like Rainforest.

My kids got Build-a-bear gift cards for Xmas from Grandma, so we brought them with and they were able to use them at the Build-a-dino store (BAB runs it). The boys loved that, and they were so proud to carry those dino boxes on the airplane home (couldn't get the boxes in the suitcase!). So many people stopped to ask them about the dino heads/tails sticking out of the box!:rotfl: For 2 $18 dinos, sound/roar inserts and an outfit for each, cost just under $80! Good thing they had their gift cards!

It was a great way to spend our last night at WDW. Our boys got a huge kick out of the place. I would definitely make reservations.

The restaurant is next to the Lego Store.

We went the week before Halloween '08. The restaurant definitely kept my sons, 2 and 1 at the time happy. The wait was a bit tough on them though, as they had only recently opened and didn't take reservations at the time. The sound was, as someone stated earlier, VERY loud. The food was good, but it was expensive as well. For four adults and two kids, it was easily the most expensive meal we had while we were there and it wasn't on the dining plan.

Where is it located exactly (what's it next to)?

It's on the edge of the Marketplace/Pleasure Island and is soooo good--I ate in the ice cave last night and had a burger that was delicious. The Rotis. chicken was good too, according to my father. Got the Chocolate Extinction for dessert and it was huge & great.

If you want to get your food faster, I'd suggest not ordering an appetizer--ours came out within ten minutes!!

Overall, great experience: I go to RC often but prefer T-Rex now.

We went in November with a large group, including three boys ages 9, 10, & 15. Everyone really liked it, adults and kids alike.

We went on New Years Day with a party of 7. We waited an hour for a table (I didn't think that was too bad considering the time of year and no ressie). Atmosphere was really awesome; I think any age of kid would like to look around. Request a table in the "Ice Cave" - it's neat! Food for kids was just so so - my burger was really good, though!

Love to hear all the great reviews. I just discovered this place and my daughter will flip. She loves dinosaurs :)
