Is T-Rex part of the 2016 Dining Plan options? I gather if so, it is a 1 Table Service Credit. Have read mixed reviews. Have a son who is 8 and a daughter 5. Not super into dinosaurs but thought may be a cool option for a dinner in DTD. Is it a hit or miss?

TREX is loud and obviously centered around a dinosaur theme. If they are not interested in dinosaurs, I would consider another DTD eatery. Rainforest Cafe has animal theming and doesn't seem quite as loud. Splitsville is also fun with bowling and eating. With so many dining options at Disney, I would pick something more appealing to the kids (unless you want to dine there and think the kids will like the Dino theme). My kids like it and aren't super into dinosaurs either. I don't have any complaints about the restaurant, other than the menu seems to be centered on meat items and not have a lot of selection.

My teen DD's enjoy T-Rex. We are going there again this August. It is a neat experience, but it is so LOUD! Be prepared for that. There is also a dig site that might be fun for your children.
It is one credit on the DDP (or it was last August); however, we became Landry card members ($25 to join, then $25 credit added on to your card; also $25 for birthday month - if you are travelling in your birthday month, you can use the $50 credit). We pay OOP for this meal and use the Landry card. We felt that we received really good service - maybe because we were Landry member? The manager came over twice and thanked us for being Landry members and made sure we were enjoying our meals.
Like lizard1 mentioned, Rainforest might be a better choice (also a Landry restaurant).
Have fun!

As for TRex being loud....um hello, most restaurants in Disney are quite loud! If you want quiet, SciFi is one of the quietest. Anyway, back to TREX....my DS15 still loves the place! As do I! Its a lot of fun. The theme is great. The menu is good, they have a nice variety. And the food has always been delish. Check out videos on youtube if youre curious. ;)

T-Rex will very likely be part of the 2016 Dining Plan and its participation announced shortly. It is owned by Landry's & sometimes it takes time for WDW to iron out the contract with 3rd party restaurants. It should also be a 1 credit TS. I've taken a pre-teen niece here & we enjoyed it & thought it was definitely worthwhile. It is an experience. She loves dinosaurs but was a bit weirded out by animatronic dinosaurs moving around near her. LOL. The food is fine. Nothing spectacular but tasty and in line with its sister Rainforest Cafe. It is a very good value on the Dining Plan as the food can be quite pricey. I'd take kids at least once. Perhaps look at some of the online videos with them before you book to see if they are interested. Good luck!

We go everytime we are in Disney. All the kids love it and the food is pretty good. The guys usually get the Boneyard Buffet (chicken, ribs, and veggies) and there is rarely room for dessert. ;)

I don't know about the dining plan. We always pay oop and are doing so with the Landry select club.. My kids (dd 18, dd13, DS10) insist we go there every trip. They absolutely love it. None are particularly into dinosaurs but they love the theme, the loudness and the food. Our dinners last year were actually very good. Better than some of the other food we ate on the trip. The chocolate volcano is a must when we go.

Maybe I'm hard of hearing because I didn't think it was THAT loud. It's a cool theme and decent food. Definitely worth a try. DS3 loves dinosaurs so of course he had a blast. DD5 was a little scared at first but warmed up after a few mins. We really enjoyed it
