For our DTD evening, we're looking at either T-Rex or Raglan Rd for dinner. We lived in Ireland (one of the kids was born there, in fact- and DH's whole family is there) so I thought that might be fun, but DS is completely obsessed w/ Dinosaurs...

Thus the tough choice. DH says he's fine w/ T-Rex because he wants the kids to have fun, and we're paying OOP either way;
what do you think?

Kids don't stay young forever. :)

While the food is better at Raglan Rd., I'd go to T-Rex and let your DS have fun.

It depends on what your focus is for the night. T-Rex is more about the atmosphere and less about the food - especially for kids.

Raglan Road is an interesting place especially for dinner when they have the music and dancer performing. We ate at Raglan Road last summer and I didn't particularly care for the food and neither did my kids. DH said his meal was just "okay" not bad but nothing to really go crazy about.

In my opinion T-Rex is much more kid friendly. When we were at Raglan Road is was packed mainly with adults who were drinking way too much.

Walk thru T rex, you can walk all around and into the back. Then go eat at Raglan Rd.

Definitely Raglan Road - the food is very good and the atmosphere is really fun. Like the last poster said you can walk through T Rex for the kids :goodvibes

Trex definately, my kids love it, it's a must do every trip. I actually really enjoy it too, there mushroom ravioli is the best. Its a fun atmosphere, while I am sure Ragland Road is great and some day I want to try it(breadpudding) I have 2 kids that when they are happy so am I.

I am sure you will get lots of opinions for and against..

My thoughts, FWIW , is that I would think you will have experienced much more authentic pubs in Ireland and the kids would like T-rex better.

I agree. We loved Raglan Road but my kids were 14 and 16 and more into the food than the experience. In your case T-Rex will probably be more of a hit.

T rex, even my 11 and 13 like to look around. The corn dog nuggets are a must for my 11 yr old. We've had good food there and the kids will be entertained. I am sure it means more to him than a sligtly better meal means to you.

Another vote for T-Rex. And I just wanted to say that I agree about the mushroom ravioli. This was one of the nicer meals we had during our 3week trip in Sept/Oct. DH had the ribs which he loved also. Although it can be loud, this is a must for us on our next trip.

Sorry; I should have said; my DD used to step dance, and our family is very music oriented, so I was thinking they might enjoy that too...

but I hadn't thought about the whole "kids in a bar" feel; and to be honest, I'm American enough that I'm really not comfortable with it, so primarily for that reason, I'm leaning toward T-Rex- I think...

Thanks everyone for your responses! I have a feeling we won't be disappointed either way, and that's because of y'all!

If your DS is obsessed with dinosaurs you should definitely do T-Rex. My DS LOVED it, and he can't wait to go back!

Not all of the seats at raglan road have a view of the stage- I was there last year and we were able to see absolutely nothing. The food wasn't that great either, except for the fries and bread pudding. T-rex is just a rainforest cafe with a super cool dino layover, so if your kids like rainforest cafe, they'll probabaly love t-rex.

strangely enough, I'm using my light up t-rex cup right now!

I have a couple of questions about T-Rex ( never been)

1. Can you go in and watch the stuff without eating there? Just to clarify...It seems from other posts here you can. If you do that can you see the dinos and the meteor shower thing clearly or are you kind of away from it?

2. DD will be 2 yrs 9 months...if we would eat there is it too scary for her?
DS is 6 so I think he will be fine (he will be almost 7)

We loved Raglan Road - we had great food - the Shepherd's Pie and Bread Pudding - amazing. We went early (5:30 pm) and did not get the Adults drinking crowd. Kids enjoyed the show. My son loved the Dalkey Duo appetizer.

We also went to T-Rex when my boys were dinosaur crazy - atmosphere great but monotonous after 60 min. of same thing. Food so-so for us but I bet other readers have had opposite experiences. For the pp for a 2 year old - approach with caution - dark at times and VERY VERY loud. If anyone wants to go for a good conversation - forget it!! I'm sure you could stand by the bar and see if the toddler is frightened before sitting down and actually ordering.

I've never tried Raglan Road, but we ate at T-Rex in December and LOVED it! I'm sure it's now a "must do" for us every trip - we're already excited about it for our upcoming trip! Everything we got was excellent (dh got a burger and I got a chicken/ribs combo), but the ribs were the best we've ever eaten! And I don't usually order ribs. The only thing to note is that they don't accept the dining plan there.

Kids don't stay young forever. :)

I would be afraid of this too.
