I thought I was set on HDD for our non-park day, but now I'm thinking maybe we could go to DTD about 2pm and get an early T-Rex dinner in.

We are on the DDP and have a 5yr old DS, since I've been to neither restaurant before, I'm having a hard time deciding which he might like best.

Opinions please!

I make ADR's on the 31st! =)

I am wracking my brain and not coming up with what HDD stands for. But, T Rex is great if your little likes dinosaurs! It does get a bit loud though if that's an issue. They do not give all their ressies to Disney directly, so if you have a hard time securing the time you want just call them directly and they will have plenty of availability.

Hoop-Dee-Doo revue dinner show at Fort Wilderness. We would take HDDR over T-Rex any day.

Hmm, well my personal choice is Hoop. It's an evening of good food and entertainment, and you could spend some time looking around Fort Wilderness before the show. I am not big on the food or atmosphere at TRex, or Downtown Disney for that matter. That may change as Disney Springs comes more to life.

I think it also depends on your son. Will he enjoy sitting through a show (it is super silly, and they take breaks while you eat, but he still may not want to sit quietly through the show itself)? Is he okay with LOUD dinosaurs and the room going dark for the meteor shower at TRex? Seriously, picture a loud restaurant, and then picture it 10x louder, haha.

However, Hoop takes 2 credits per person, TRex is only 1, so you would need to factor that into your decision too.

He likes dino's but he doesn't do loud very well...even though this was the our 1st 4th of July he didn't want/need his ear muffs!

I've planned HDDR, so if we do T-Rex instead it leaves me with 1 extra TS to plan for Epcot.

Because I've never experienced a dinner show I think I'm just nervous as to what to expect, and will DH like it and will DS sit and watch (he loves singing & dancing though)!!

HDDR is a great place for the whole family. I've seem folks from 3 to 83 smiling and clapping along. There are probably a few stuffed shirts who look down their noses at the menu and the corny, vaudeville style of the show. But the majority of guests come away having enjoyed it very much.

I'd take an evening at HDDR over a meal at TRex any day.

HDDR by far. It is true Disney and has been showing 3 times a day for 40? years.
It is a western themed dinner show with all you care to eat: Salad, Corn Bread and Butter, Fried Chicken, Ribs, Mashed Potatoes, Country Styles Baked Beans, Corn, and Strawberry Shortcake. The food is good down home cooking. The price includes tax and gratuities and all you care beverages, including beer, wine and sangria.
It is full of singing, dancing, and corny jokes. We love it. I think your 5 yo will too
enjoy!!!

I think HDD is your best choice then! There are breaks in the show when they bring courses of food out, plus the humor is really silly, and you can sing and clap along with the songs.
We see Hoop every trip, there are always lots of little kids there having a blast :)

I would definitely do HDDR over T-Rex! I hope I never step into T-Rex again! It is way too loud and the food is kind of gross. HDDR is so much fun and I really enjoyed the food. We took DS when he was 3 and, honestly, he was too young for it. He would have sat through it better when he was 5. He really enjoyed doing a pony ride beforehand, though and playing on the playground afterward.

I did not really like HDDR. Minority opinion, I actually booked T-Rex in October. We did HDDR in April, my first time. My feeling was maybe it would have been more fun with a larger group, it was just me and my son (who is an adult with special needs, and not really verbal. He loves music though, so we gave it a try). We also got rubbery chicken, which I think is not typical because I am aware that people rave about the food there all the time.

We have T rex in mid afternoon one day, 2:30, and will shop that day as well. (it will probably rain but we will roll with it)

Another vote for HDDR! Trex is just a dinosaur version of rainforest cafe, nothing all that special, and as others have noted LOUD and scary for the little ones when the lights dim for the meteor shower. I had a headache by the time our meal was over from the noise and the whining/clinging of my most sensitive DD. Plus everything took FOREVER at Trex, and I couldn't wait to get out!

Our kids LOVE HDDR! My husband, who doesn't even like food with bones (ribs, fried chicken, etc) won't miss it. We always have a great time, and we don't even drink the included beer/sangria! We get there a little early and visit the ponies and playground first.

Our 3 and 5 year old girls loved TRex! It is loud but that meant our kids could be loud! There was a lot to look at and keep them entertained. The food was excellent and the portions were huge!

I'm not sure this would even come up as a reasonable debate. HDDR all the way.

Pretty much my reaction when I saw the subject. "Is this even a question?"

And I haven't even seen the Hoop yet. I just know how my stomach felt after eating at T-Rex, and I wouldn't send my worst enemy there (or Rainforest - they use something in their overall prep that does not agree with my system).

My son's first trip to HDDR was when he was 6, and he laughed during the entire show. I have never been to T-Rex, but I think he will love HDDR.

There is no comparison. Hoop De Doo. Trex is a chain and no show.

DO the pony rides cost extra? Where are they? We are going for the first time in Sept. and my kids would love that.
