T-Rex Cafe- My review.

I too had a bad experience with T Rex. It came later though, when they refused to make it right. Everything was fine with our service and the meal. We were a party of 7 (with 5 adults), so the check came to $160.00ish. T Rex is supposed to give a DVC discount ($16.00). What happened is our waitress forgot to apply our discount. She gave my husband the check, and I actually didn't see the check until after we left. When I noticed the problem, the restaurant was closed. We ate late. So I figured I'd go back, ask for the manager, and they'd surely make it right. WRONG!! She said she was very sorry but there was nothing she could do. Once the charges for the night are processed they can't fix any mistakes. Yeah... how convenient for them. They make a $16.00 mistake in their favor and conveniently they have such an antiquated accounting system that they can't make it right. They couldn't offer me a coupon for $16.00 worth of desserts?? Nothing:eek:!! They over charge me.. and they can't do anything about it. I told her I'd never eat there again. I truly have never heard of such a thing. She didn't at all care if I never ate there again or if I gave them a bad review because of it. My next step is to write to the corporate president. If he can't fix it, then I definitely will tell everyone. :sad2:

I've worked in a lot of restaurants, and I've had similar problems- I've had to give money back to my employers because I didn't enter the tip into the computer and once the charges go through for the night, they're the credit card company's and there's no way to adjust them.
That being said, it's a terrible display of customer service to not offer some sort of reimbursement.

interesting..thanks for the reviews! we are thinking of trying this as DS3 loves dinosaurs.

We have been to the TRex in Kansas City several times. We've found that if you stick with the more basic fare on the menu, it's good. I order the Bronto Burger every time, and I sub the fries with French Onion soup (for a small upcharge). It's good, it's filling (we usually take some home), and it's not terribly expensive. We got the Volcano dessert on DD's birthday, and that we really really good. Every time I've ordered something more adventurous, I've been disappointed. The only appetizer we've ever ordered was the nachos, and I wouldn't order them again.

We went here in March for my little boys birthday (3 y.o.). We LOVED the atmosphere and the service was great. The food, however, was another story. I didn't think it was bad, it just wasn't good. It WAS expensive, though. All in all, I'm glad we went for the experience, but I will probably avoid it in the future. If your kiddos like dinosaurs, like mine, it's worth a shot. Just be prepared for noise- it is LOUD. You should also try to sit in the ice room/ cave. When the meteor shower hits, it is totally cool. Also, if you have to wait long for a table, there is a place outside where the kids can excavate some dino bones. My little ones raved about this part.

You are right. I can understand if they have an old fashioned system and can't adjust a charge after it is finished, but I don't see how it would have killed them to give us a certificate for free desserts or something. Since I work with a committee at the high school, we go to restaurants all the time and they give us coupons for desserts or free meals as a donation for our graduation fundraiser. My sister had to leave a Rainforest Cafe when her son was little because he became too frightened when the animals roared. They felt bad and gave her a free dessert certificate. So, they could do it. I still plan to write to corporate and ask for it.

I'm sorry for those who have not had good experiences at TRex. When we went in Feb, we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the service was fantastic (my DD gave our waiter a "10" haha), and the food was good. We are so looking forward to our return trip in November. I hope we don't have an "off" experience, because we really loved the place after our first visit!

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience...thank you for sharing. My husband does not want to try this place b/c my son would be scared of the Dino...hopefully the food gets better in the future and when he is a little older we can try this place.

I made an adr but I think I'm going to cancel. I have a 1 year old who I"m sure will be traumatized by the noise. My dd5 wants to go real bad, but I'm wondering, is there a gift shop there we could walk through and maybe peek in the restaurant to satisfy her curiosity?

We were there in June and really enjoyed the restaurant! It is noisy, but I have a 3 y/o and 6 y/o sons who are dino fans! The food is pricier than what I would typically pay to eat out with a family of 5, but it was vacation and we thought the food was good.
There is a Build-A-Dino (just like Build-A-Bear), a gift shop, and a Fossil Dig in front of the restaurant if your little one needs to escape the noise! ;)

We just went in July and enjoyed T-rex. I had been to Rainforest so I knew what to expect. I saw a lot of bad reviews but we went anyway. We had ZERO wait in July at about 4pm. There was a long line though when we left about 5:30.

It was loud with the music and talking (just like rainforest), but I didn't see any children upset about the noise of the meteor shower. The meteor shower only lasts a minute or so and is lound, but all the kids seemed to be enjoying everything.

The food was very good. I had the BBQ chicken flatbread appetizer as my meal and I couldn't finish it all. We all shared some. It was delicious. Hubby had the salad with cranberries and grilled chicken, also fresh and delicious. Our friend had the BBQ combo meal with ribs and chicken and fries and slaw. We all shared some and there was no way to finish it all. it was tender and delicious as well. With sodas and tip it was about $75. But it was the only meal we needed all day and if we were headed to the room we would have had a lunch worth of leftovers for the next day as well. I highly recommend sharing meals there. Everything we saw was huge even for Disney standards.

One other tip. If you go online to the website for Rainforest cafe and sign up for the safari club (I think it's about $10), you get walk-up priority seating for Rainforest or T-rex and you get either a free select appetizer (value about $10) or 10% off of your entrees. It also gives you a discount in the store there. It's a nice little bonus.

Hope this helps!

The website says you have to sign up for the safari club in person...doesn't look like you can do it online.

might want to try to call. When I lost my card, I called and they gave me a new membership over the phone without any other information. (I thought they might be up to date in the new age of computers by now..lol...silly me). Sorry for the confusion on that.

If you are in the area and have time, I highly recommend stopping over to Rainforest if you are in the DTD area or AK location and signing up before you want to eat there or at T-rex. It's worth it for the free app or discount and seating priority even if you just use it once. They also send emails of additional discounts throughout the year.

We ate at T-Rex for the 1st time in Jun and really enjoyed it. We had the 2 dips, the queso was really hot and so good, the chips were fresh, warm and really crispy. The shrimp dip was not great, would skip it next time. Our party had the Mahi Mahi, French Onion Soups, and Chicken Pot Pies (Gigantic) and it all was cooked well, arrived steaming hot. Everyone was beyond pleased and we all agreed to do it again, since we had no room for dessert.

The meteor showers was every 20 minutes, not really that loud but next time I would ask to be seated elsewhere. There were a ton of toddlers/children in the restaurant, no one seemed to mind the noise at all.

We were just there last Thursday 8/14. I put it on my "do once" list. It's exactly like rainforest cafe (in fact, it's the same company. we asked) except of course now you have a dinosaur theme. The food is "Chilis" quality but nothing more. We got quesidillas and hot wings for apps. I got the French onion soup. We had the cheese steak, pasta for the main course, in fact I can't remember what my dh & other son got, so that tells you how memorable it was. It was hot and filling. We skipped dessert and went to Ghirallidi's instead.

Just called the 800 number about the safari club. We live in Georgia and there is not a rainforest or trex here.

You can't sign up by calling. But, you can sign up and use it the day you get it. It has to be at a rainforest though. So, sign up and then head over to trex.

They email you a birthday coupon of $5 but she said you have to be an established member. My boys are turning 13 next week and we will be at WDW and I have T Rex booked too. So It would have been nice to have that coupon too. We will sign up though. With the free appetizer it will pay for itself. We will be there in November too for my other twins birthday so we will just go again and use the club discount again.

sorry to hear you didn't like it....we tried it in May for dinner and even though the place was packed we loved it....it took about 20 minutes to get a table for 2, but our server was prompt and very friendly...our food (steaks) were hot and yummy and came out in a timely manner...and yes the desert was yummy....almost as good as the one at Rainforest... we have it on our must do list for our upcoming Dec trip

i never wanted to go there but now that i heard it was part of RAINFOREST i will NEVER go there. Rainforest was expensive and horrible food not to mention how loud it was. omg:headache::headache:
