T.O. on Vick.... he's just freakin' nuts.

There is no reason why Michael Vick shouldn't be allowed to play football.

He was convicted and served jail time for his crime. He is out now and I am sure he has learned his lesson and won't be allowing dog fights on his property again.

It's an unforgivable crime. To me, the way he treated those dogs puts him in the same category as a child molester or child killer (preying on those who have no defense against you.) Would you want a child molester or child killer playing in the NFL if they happened to get a short enough sentence to make it possible?

as to how our children look at professional athletes...we as parents have waaay more impact on our children and their mores than do professional athletes. My 14yo son who IS an athlete and IS a great student has no illusions about professional sports figures. We have sadly and certainly had many, many, many teaching moments where we could show our kids that all that glitters is not gold and therefore these athletes should have our respect and admiration ONLY when they earn and deserve it. In our house we say it's ok to appreciate the talent but maybe not the man or woman.

This is the case in my home, with my children, as well.

But like it or not, these players hold something that is revered by many, regardless, and the message received is that doing wrong things and making wrong choices is ok as long as you're good at the sport, winning games and bringing in money.

Aren't we sending mixed messages when in one breath, we're telling them they're not someone to behold, yet there they are on the covers of magazines, making millions of dollars, and in this case, being welcomed back with open arms despite committing heinous crimes, etc?

Kind of difficult for youngsters to distinguish which is really "right".

Whatever. This is how professional sports are, and I realize my opinion won't change anything.

Never liked him, no matter which team he played for. It was commented that the Panthers wanted to look at him one time.... first time I yelled at the tv!!!!
