PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP)—Terrell Owens(notes) wants Michael Vick(notes) to be reinstated immediately by the NFL, and said any extension of the quarterback’s suspension would be similar to “kicking a dead horse.”

Speaking after the Buffalo Bills training camp practice Sunday morning, the star receiver referred to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s handling of Vick’s status as “unfair.” Owens also lobbied to have more of the league’s high-profile players voicing their opinion in support of Vick and asked the NFL Players Association to become more involved.

“I think he’s done the time for what he’s done. I don’t think it’s really fair for him to be suspended four more games,” Owens said, referring to reports that the NFL is considering to further punish Vick. “It’s almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground. … The guy’s already suffered so much. And to add a four-game suspension on a two-year prison sentence, that’s ridiculous.”

Vick met with Goodell this week but has yet to learn when he will be allowed to resume his NFL career. The former Falcons star was suspended indefinitely in August 2007 after he admitted bankrolling a dogfighting operation.

Vick has served a 23-month federal sentence and was freed from home confinement on July 20. He must still serve three years’ probation.

Owens said Vick deserves a second chance.

“Why shouldn’t he? I mean, there’s a lot more guys around the league that have done far more worst things than that and gotten second chances,” Owens said.

Owens said he would welcome Vick as a teammate.

“Michael Vick is a guy that really hasn’t any character issues besides what he got a prison sentence for, so why not?” he said.

T.O. lives in an entirely different world than the rest of us, doesn't he?

I don't agree with T.O. in all subjects but I do here. Vick paid his debt to society. He didn't whine or try to blame anyone else. He should be allowed to return IF he is capable.

If I were a team owner or coach I would be leary of his playing ability after such a long time away from the field.

My main point was the one in red....

I understand your point. T.O. isn't the sharpest tool in the tool shed for getting his point across. But I still agree with his overall conclusion.

IMO..he's on probation for 3 yrs.. make him wait it out so he's totally
'paid his debt'...

but..I'm sure his ability will still be there...

And I don't think Michael Vick should ever set foot on a football field again. He is the lowest of the low. I disliked him before I lived with my Pit Bull mix.....now I think my DBF wasn't too far off the mark when he said that he thought that what Michael Vick did to those dogs should be done to him. Actually, there is no one that I'm close to (including a couple of people I know who have ties to Virginia Tech) who thinks that he should be able to resume his playing career and I would have a new least favorite team if any team actually took him, including my current favorite team.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

FRIGGEN T.O.

Sorry, he annoys me.

I moved here from the Philly area and he INVADED. I really want to go to Training Camp and heckle him, but he's a lot bigger than I am. And now he has his own cereal...AH! It's only being sold in NY and PA in Tops stores...he's going to be at the Fairport Tops sometime soon to promote it...ooooo a little too close for comfort. (Next town over...if he comes to the Tops that's across the street from me, I may just start throwing things at him...I am an Eagles fan after all ;) )

ETA: Oh yeah, to keep it on topic... T.O. is a moron. Michael Vick should not be reinstated. Whether or not there are people who have done "worse" things that continue to play is a separate issue. IMO they shouldn't be allowed back on the field. What we need to remember is that our football players are role models to our children and as such they need to be held to a higher standard than what they currently are.

Yes he did his time..NO... I dont think he should be able to play football.. I hate the man, and I dont even know him..Can you tell I am a big dog lover:thumbsup2

Maybe they should strap him to one of those breeding tables, and let others have a go at him..just like that did to his female dogs..

Even if the NFL did re-instate his eligibility, does anyone REALLY think that Vicks would ever get signed to any team? That team would be letting itself in for a PR nightmare.

Disregarding the time away from the field, was he ever *really* good enough for a team-owner to risk that?

Actually, I'm of the opinion that felons shouldn't be allowed to play pro football at all, but then a lot of teams wouldn't be able to field enough players for a game :cool2: ...

agnes!

I agree. That's why I think it's unfair to deny Vick his 2nd chance when so many others are given one. Leonard Little killed a woman and was given 2nd and even a 3rd chances.

NFL either needs to go all the way with bans or freakin forget it.

Somebody will pick him up. I'll bet almost anything on that.

The NFL is made up of a bunch of gangsters, murders, drug dealers, and rapist. Its time to say enough is enough. Someone needs to be made an example of. This is ridiculous.

In any other world, Vick would not get his job back, why should this be any different. I agree with the other poster though,if he is going to be reinstated it should be when his probation is over, then maybe, but not until.

As for TO, he's an idiot! Didn't he say also, that Goodall should spend 23 months in jail to see what its like? :sad2: He's opening his big fat mouth already and the season hasn't even begun.

Marvelous choice of words on his part. (Where's the dunce smiley?)

If I was a football fan, I could not/would not watch him. No way. He makes me ill.

It amazes me how some people in some professional sports are willing to look past all kinds of "character flaws" in order to employ winning or profitable players. I think it sends a crappy message to our youth (and I know many will disagree with me as I've already had this type of conversation here about Manny Ramirez, and he's a peach compared to this guy. :rolleyes1 )

Look-I think dog fighting is despicable. I'm glad Vick was convicted and went to prison. However, I don't believe that it should keep him from playing professional football which although I enjoy watching is NOT loaded with people who are talented in other areas. People who hold these guys up as 'role models for our children' are doing their children a huge diservice. Let Michael Vick play football; he's a hugely talented player. Football is a violent game and many players end up injured for life. Not all that different from a dog fight except that we try to keep them alive to take the field another day and pay them a lot of money. Vick knows nothing else; he grew up rough and he'll enhance our enjoyment of the game. T.O. is the same thing-couldn't do much else so why all the hand wringing when these football players do something stupid. Tell your kids exactly who/what these guys are and move on.

What he did went far past the point of being stupid. Illegal and cruel for starters.

:rotfl2: Millions of children idolize these guys, whether we as parents like it or not.

He doesn't deserve that money. And if he does go back to football, I hope he does end up injured for life. As much as I dislike certain other players (T.O. being one of them, Randy Moss being another at one time although he's changed now) I don't wish that on any other player. And there will be other players that absolutely hate him because of what he did and do their best to try to make that happen. I'm not saying that's necessarily right but it will happen.

The NFL didn't keep him from playing while he was in jail, Michael Vick did that to himself. I applaud the NFL for enforcing their own code of conduct and not agreeing to having the suspension run concurrent to the jail time. To say that it's unfair is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Don't engage in illegal activities and you don't have to worry about being kept from working.

True that his crimes were cruel. He spent two years in prison for them and he obviously knows how the adult public perceives him in general. Now, as to how our children look at professional athletes...we as parents have waaay more impact on our children and their mores than do professional athletes. My 14yo son who IS an athlete and IS a great student has no illusions about professional sports figures. We have sadly and certainly had many, many, many teaching moments where we could show our kids that all that glitters is not gold and therefore these athletes should have our respect and admiration ONLY when they earn and deserve it. In our house we say it's ok to appreciate the talent but maybe not the man or woman.

Obvioulsy T.O. just wants to be in the limelight. He's saying all this for shock-value and so people will talk about him. Which, is what we're doing!

Go Bills!!!

There is no reason why Michael Vick shouldn't be allowed to play football.

He was convicted and served jail time for his crime. He is out now and I am sure he has learned his lesson and won't be allowing dog fights on his property again.
