T-Day Cruisers 2011, November 19-26th, 2011

Noting that last comment about Mason and the menu, given that Lisa and I are both trial lawyers, Thanksgiving is the one week each year that we can commit in advance to traveling on a consistent basis....so Mason has never in his life been home for Thanksgiving, and (our signature gives it away), this is our 8th straight year on Disney this week, though I note that the Lux and Long families have been with us for many of those trips, and several others on this thread and been present for one or more as well....The percentage of Castaway Club (repeat cruisers) cruisers on this trip will be very high, possibly topping 40% of the ship.

Good Monday Morning cruisers... The final weeks to get ready begin. We are trying to finish up those last projects at work and taking care of those final arrangements..

We are going to ship a box to the ship with our F/E items in it. We have done that before and it has worked really well..

formal and semi formal. since DD is packing his Tux he was considering wearing it twice. will he be the only one in a tux on the semi formal night? or should he plan to pack a second jacket/sportcoat?

:)

I think he would prefer to wear the tux twice--one for the whole packing issue and two because he looks so darn snazzy in it and doesnt get to wear it much!! (and I agree!! LOL!)

I say go for it!! I totally get the packing issue, plus men always look so great all dressed up. Unfortunately we have no tuxes to wear, but if hubby had one I would want him to wear it both nights! It is fun to dress up!

I will have a suit for Formal night and a jacket (and probably no tie) for semi-formal night. I would not be surprised to find someone else's husband on this thread with sandals on with his blazer an semi-formal night...seriously, while formal is fairly well respected, there will be a broad dichotomy of definitions of "formal" and especially "semi-formal"...

so you have met me. LOL. While I may not be wearing sandals on semi formal night, I probably won't be wearing socks with my loafers. :rotfl:

That comment was actually aimed elsewhere, but I understand completely, and likely will not be any better myself.

Hello Everyone.

We have a part of 3 on this Thanksgiving Cruise. It will be me (40 year old male), my 8 year old daughter and my 9 year old nephew. It will be my 4th Disney Cruise, my daughter's 5th and my nephew's first.

I am active duty Army and recently returned from Afghanistan so we are really looking forward to the fun. My daughter is very excited to show her cousin "the ropes" around the boat. But I wanted to get in on our first cruise meet so they can meet other children their age. I am cruising as a single parent and wanted to know if there were dining tables allocated by Disney for single parents and their children? We are slated for the late dining and I wanted the kids to be able to interact with similar families if possible. Does anyone know?

I am just catching up to the 32 pages of information on this thread, but I would be glad to provide our information to join in on the meet party on the first day. We are staying in the Residence Inn the night prior and would be glad to meet whenever. We are also interested to designing our door for the first time so whatever information on the magnets and designs are appreciated. Thanks.

is it really only 12 days till we sail? ack. I "started" to pack but it looks like I will be scrambling early next week to get everything together as my girlfriends picked this upcoming weekend for our annual weekend in Rehobeth for our book club. (and I cant miss that!!)

I did managed to create a pile in our guest bedroom of stuff like swim goggles, sunblock, hats, and the like and what seems like the entire contents of my DD's closet... LOL I also printed out some magnet "ears" for the door.

I also did my usual--create a pile on the floor in my closet of things I "think" I want to take--but will need to sort through it as currently it might be enough clothing for a 30 day world tour! {I do think I might need a bag just for shoes!!!!)

need to finish my FE gifts. they are about 95% done... just need some finishing touches. (and add tags!)

so much to do so much to do!!!

Late seating is cerainly more relaxing in terms not having to rush back from excursions or Castaway Cay, and we have always done late seating, even when Mason was only 5. Generally, if you have asked for other than a 4-top table, Disney will likely pair you with another family with relatively similarly aged child or children. We have done this a few times.

As for the Dismeet, anyone is certainly welcome.

Think I know the person to which you are referring to. DH and I are both professionals so we are dressed up most everyday. We prefer to be a little more casual over our vacations. DH will be following the same dress code as Chuck with very few exceptions.

On another note, if I can help anyone with door decorating I am glad to do my best. Those who have cruised with us before know that I love door magnets and will have a door that is absolutely covered. The kids really enjoy it and so do the almost 50 year old kids!!!

Dang! If he things he's sexy in it, AND you think he's sexy in it! Wear it! :lmao:

My DH and 3 sons wear shirts and ties. We never have need for a tux, so we just go with what we've got. For a total of 3 hours of the whole week, (for us) it's not worth getting worked up over.

However...gotta love a guy in a tux! :thumbsup2

John, welcome aboard, glad to have you with us.

First I want to say THANK YOU!! for the service that you give our country and protecting our freedoms.

We had another late addition to our FE group, I would personally welcome you to join if you are interested. It has been officially closed, but most of us have something extra if you are interested. There may be a few who don't, but they do not have to participate with you if they don't want to.

I'll post some graphics for you tonight. Anything that you and the kids are interested in?

Lori

PS - Chuck said he and Larry will be "heading" up the meet. Look a page back or so for the details. I think he said 4:00 or right after the drill during the sail away party. Look for a couple of tall guys.

John-

I agree with Lori's message.

Thank you so much for your service!! :thumbsup2 My Dad is retired Army--our entire family has a lot of love and respect for the military.

We would also be happy to include your family in our Fish Extender deliveries.

Enjoy your time with your family!

Lisa

Although Thursday night is "semi formal night", since it is Thanksgiving people still dress in formal type clothing. The semi formal menu includes lobster, however there is a traditional thanksgiving menu as well. One year Mason had a report where he had to turn in the recipe for his favorite thanksgiving dinner item--he turned in the actual thanksgiving menu from the Magic!! The menu is given as a souvenir at the end of dinner.

Lisa

We still have the menu from when we were on the Turkey day cruise in '08. We had our waiters sign it. The pictures I had were of me in my formal dress so I wanted to see if it had changed or if I had just dressed up twice. With lobster available, there's no way I'm going for turkey.

Wendy - Thank you!!! I love it!!

John - Welcome! We would be happy to include your family in our deliveries as well. You are going to have a great time.

12 more days to Cove Cafe..... Ahhhhh!

John welcome!!!

The kids will have so much fun I am sure. I have a 7 year old daughter and I am sure she would love to get to know your daughter

We too would be happy to include in the Fish Extender Deliveries if you like.

Chuck are you trying to say my husband may be the best dressed at the table....that will be a first :rotfl2:

Thank you everyone. I appreciate the quick replies.

As a newby to the Dismeet and everything else, I was thinking a couple of things:

1) I might have my hands full with the two kids on my own. I am not sure what I am getting into with the FE movement. Can I kindly opt out? :)

2) The kids really are excited to do the door decorating. They are thinking a combination of Thanksgiving and sea animals. I know magnets are the prime means with some white poster board possibilities. Does anyone have any magnet experise or ideas?

3) I am really trying to line up some meeting for the two kids (two 9 nine year olds 1 boy 1 girl) so they don't get too sick of their Dad/Uncle.

Thanks again to everyone. I look forward to the cruise.

John
