Hi,
My DD2 3 by then, is on some serious meds, most I am not worried about. One, ACTH( similar to a steroid) I give her by injection. My ? - Will I have a problem boarding the ship or going through customs with all her needles & syringes etc? I am going to post this on the cruise board too but thought some of you would be able to answer my ?. Thanks for any info!

I had no dificulty boarding with my insulin and insulin pump supplies.

However since we had requested a wheelchair accessible room due to husbands needs we did need a doctors note for that.
They faxed us a form to have the doctor fill out.

A friend has a daughter who has seizures occasionally. She discussed this with DCL. They had her doctor send in the treatment plan in case of emergency and planned to have the medication on the ship just in case she needed it. My friend changed her mind and decided not do WDW rather than the combination trip -- however they were more than willing to help out in anyway they could.

Since you leave the ship and enter foreign countries it is better to be prepared with a doctors note to prevent any interruptions in your travel fun!

A lot of people have reported that at the resorts, they just asked Housekeeping for a syringe disposal container. I imagine you do the same thing on the ship. Can you confirm that Linda (or maybe not, since you have a pump)?

It has been a while since we did DCL, however I had no problem with syringes.... I just kept used ones in seperate ziploc bag and disposed them at home..

I bet that DCL has a way for you to dispose of syringes while on board. Call guest services, I remember they were very helpful

Have a great trip!

My cousin has a bionic leg (metal rods & stuff involved) so she always sets off the metal detector. She has found it easier since she got some sort of permanent card from her doctor. She had it laminated and keeps it in her wallet, since nowadays you never know where there will be a metal detector and it has saved her some hassles. If this is an ongoing condition you have it may be something to look into. Just a thought

We actually have a little sharps container. It was sent with her meds one time. My DH laughed because I was like awwww look, a little baby Sharps. It is perfect for travel. I think I will have one of her Dr's call dcl after I get all the info. That is a great idea. There is a whole list of meds she can't have, they make her condition worse. Also, she can't have blood transfusions etc. So, that is a great idea. I think I will feel better traveling with her then. This is the first trip she has taken that isn't to a new hospital or Dr. I want her to experience life, but it is so hard. We are risking her getting sick from this trip, all the people etc. I am so scared they are going to start her on chemo again before we go. We would have to cancel or postpone then. I am trying to hold it off until after the first of the year. Next month my DD5 starts kindergarden, than it is both of their B-days, than our trip, then Christmas. Busy busy! Obviously, we will do what they think is best for her but, we are holding out for the best scenario. We spent yesterday in the hospital getting her infusion. She has a CT on thurs. to check for the tumor. Speech therapy, physical therapy & Developmental therapy weekly. Shots every other day (Acth, similar to a steroid) She has severe hypertension so she takes 2 meds for that & the poor thing can't sleep more than an hour or two by herself so she is on meds to help her sleep. I think we are booked full! No more meds!!! Everybody pray for us. No chemo before Christmas, & please don't let her get sick from this trip! ( I would feel terrible)
Oh, does anyone know for future reference, does it have to be the childs first trip to disney to go through the make a wish foundation? I hope to be able to take her back when she is older but proboly won't be able to afford it. I know to go through the oncology clinic it has to be their first trip. They also have to be older so it didn't so us any good.
Thanks everyone!

perhaps you could look into give kids the world it is a wonderful organization. You could go to their website, I believe it is www.gktw.org. Good luck!

Here's some pixie dust for everything to go well for you. A lot of people with children with multiple needs make up a notebook with sections where you can file the most recent MD info, therapy info, etc. Then it's all in one place and neatly filed. I was never that organized. My DD's is just stuck in file folders, but at least I have it.

As far as I know, Make a WISH doesn't have any requirement that the child not have been to Disney World before. They have a limit of only one wish per lifetime, but I know that they grant wishes to go places or do things that children have already done and want to do again.
There are other organizations that grant wishes too; some are just in particular regions of the US or just for specific places.

my wife and i went on a 7 day last march, and i kept my used needles and tossed them when i got home. i did get a letter from my doctor saying that i was a diabetic, and that i needed my needles, insulin, meter, etc. just in case i had a problem at security at the airport, but no one ever questioned it. my doctor had a form letter, so he must have gotten lotsa requests. you probably wont need it, but i would take such a letter, just in case. my best to you and your little one...:)

Carrying a doctor's note is good advice. You did not mention whether you will be traveling by air, but if so, you might want to contact the airline in advance. We travelled last fall and my husband was called back from the boarding area to open one of our checked bags because it contained needles and syringes (which we packed in our checked bags at the instruction of the airline to avoid having problems with our carry on luggage). The security person was embarrassed once he looked through the bag and the needles were not supposed to be a problem in checked baggage, but the bag was searched anyway after they saw the needles when xraying the baggage.
