Looking for a nice and clean hotel near the syracuse airport. I have seen many mixed reviews. We don't need the shuttle, we simply need somewhere to rest our heads for one night and somewhere that has a pack and play.

Any suggestions?

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express (3 minutes from the airport) on our New Years trip. Hotel was very clean, staff were great, breakfast was included, and they have an indoor pool.

We are staying at the Candlewood Suites one week from tonight (right next door to the Holiday Inn Express) so I could let you know soon how that property compares.

Thank you! That would be helpful if you let me know!

No problem :goodvibes . I will even ask about the availability of a pack-and-play for you. That should make the front desk staff look twice when I check in with my 6' 4" husband and 16 year old, bearded son :rotfl: .

Will also take some pics of the room and post them for you to see.

Holiday inn express was very nice! But I recall Candlewood suites looked newer from the outside. Looking forward to your review Gina......and trip report!

I can't say enough good things about the Double Tree. We stayed there pre-cruise with our two boys, booked it through Expedia for less than $100. The hotel is clean, nothing fancy, but comfortable for a before-flight stay. We used the shuttle to get to and from the airport with no problems.
The big reason I was so impressed was when we returned. We flew from MCO to SYR via PHL in a snowstorm, so needless to say it was a challenging day ;). When we arrived back at the hitel via the shuttle, it was 10pm and we still had a 3 hour drive home...and my new car wouldn't start! The hotel front desk called their maintenance department, who helped me figure out how to get the car into neutral (btw in a 2010 Camry you need a screwdriver to do this...) boosted the car, then ran back to the front desk to get us all warm cookies before sending us on our way! I was almost in tears when the car wouldn't start, the kids were both crying but the cookies made it all better.
I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

I am very interested in seeing the INSIDE of the Candlewood Suites. When we stayed next door at the HIE, we also thought that Candlewood looked newer (and nicer) from the outside. The photos of the interior, however, suggest the opposite :confused3 . I guess we soon shall see!

We picked the Candlewood for this trip for two reasons....price (the HIE was significantly more for the park and fly package) and the fact that we were able to get a suite with a separate bedroom at Candlewood. We are foregoing the pool and free breakfast at the HIE, but truth be told, my boy would rather eat at Tim Hortons anyway :) .

Thanks for the encouragement to do another trip report :goodvibes . Its my post-vacation therapy!!! :thumbsup2

When our family has visited they have stayed at the candlewood suites and loved it. Basically on airport property. Near restaurants too if you need them.

Oh, thank-you :cheer2: I also look forward to this, since we have chosen Candlewood Suites also to park, sleep and fly.

We've stayed at several places before an early morning flight out of SYR to MCO.

Best Western Airport Inn would be my top choice. Not new but clean and friendly, with a decent restaurant and early breakfast. Can't beat the location... right at the airport. Lowest rate too.

Holiday Inn Express on South Bay Road comes second. Clean and newer. A bit more expensive than the Best Western. A few minutes' drives to the terminal.

Candlewood Suites comes third. Next door to the Holiday Inn Express. Looks newer from the outside but is actually older than the Holday Inn. So, it's a bit worn like the Best Western, but clean. Nothing wrong with the place.

Holiday Inn Express Cicero, right on HWY 81, would be my last choice. Newer hotel. Staff is nice. About 10 minutes from the airport. Had an issue with partyers on our floor. Didn't care for the way the front desk handled the problem.

Hope this helps.

We recently stayed at Springhill Suites Syracuse Carrier Circle located at 6850 Weighlock Drive East Syracuse ny315 437-0056.

GREAT hotel!! New ... Clean spacious with breakfast! Service was very good as well.

Are we able to leave our car at those hotels mentioned for the week we are gone?

So, we are back from our trip. Please pardon the tears as I type this reply :lmao: .

The Candlewood Suites......was "okay".

The staff are fabulous. I cannot say enough about them. Very accommodating and friendly.

The shuttle service is excellent. Prompt, friendly, and free.

The property? Plain, more worn than you would think from the outside, and its a smoking building  . Even the first two non-smoking rooms they put us in smelled so bad we asked to be moved. The facility has been approved to convert to non-smoking as of January 1st, 2013, but until then, expect a smell.

The amenities in the room are good (full kitchen, large bathroom, separate bedroom in our case) but the finishings are not nearly as nice as those in their sister property across the parking lot, the Holiday Inn Express.

Laundry facilities are free and plentiful on the first floor, which is a nice perk. Just buy soap and fabric softener, or bring your own.

With no pool and no included breakfast, it is a no-brainer to say my vote goes to the HIE.

I have a bunch of room pics that I will try to upload later tonight.

And I totally forgot to ask about the pack and play :headache: . Stupid vacation brain!!

Thanks! We are going to bring the pack and play in the van just in case something happens, but I appreciate the review as I would not be happy in a smoking room or would my hubby with his allergies. Hope your trip was fun, sorry you are home!

Thanks for the heads up on the smoking smell. That eliminates them for sure.
