Syracuse Airport

We will be flying USAir out of Syracuse in July. I was just wondering how the security is working there these days? Does USAir have curbside check in? At what point do your checked bags get screaned? Has anybody flown out of there recently. Thanks.

We flew out of Syracuse in December the week before Christmas and it was a breeze. We showed up an hour before our flight, did curbside check in (I highly suggest that if it's available), took everyone to the bathroom, got through security and still had 20 or so minutes before boarding to watch the airplanes. It was great - I think they do a pretty good job really. I just wish it didn't cost so much to fly out of Syracuse! We did have an early morning flight which makes things go faster I think. We flew out of SYR in Feb. 2003. No curbside check in available. They open all luggage at check in and scan for "residue". You are not alowed to touch your luggage once they have it for checking. Give them your locks and they will lock it up when they are through. We had an early flight so no one else was waiting. I think it could get backed up really fast if it's a popular flight or busy time.

We have E-tickets, were you able to use Kiosks to check in or did you have to go to the counter? How long did the hole process take? Thanks.

We flew USAir in November 2002. USAir has 2 kiosks in Syracuse. They are to the left of the waiting area. Don't get fooled and wait in line. We had a problem using the kiosks in November but only because they changed our flights and then I had to go and have them re-change it because they gave us some crappy flights. The kiosk could not "find" our ressie. However, an attendant took us right away and took care of everything. I think the kiosks save a lot of waiting in line.

We have never had a problem with the security. They seemed pretty efficient. We flew, as mentioned, in November and again in February. Both times they had to open my purse to look in and both times it was because of my eyelash curler.

We also had E-tickets, but as we had never used the kiosks before we asked for assistance and they could not have been more helpful. All in all it took only a few minutes to check luggage, print out info at kiosks and then upstairs for security check of carry ons. Probably less than 30 minutes from start to the gate.
