We'll be in the world over Memorial Day - switched our trip from Labor Day to Memorial Day this weekend. I told my fiance this was very "spur of the moment" and he looked at me like I was crazy.

Other than being at the less than 180 day mark, I realized it is also SWW. Neither myself or my fiance care for Star Wars so we think we'll avoid DHS Friday through Sunday - maybe we'll go in for a little just to see what it's all about, but it's not something we're too interested in.

That being said - for someone that's not a big Star Wars fan, do you suggest avoiding DHS at all costs during those 3 days? What do you suggest trying to see if we do go to DHS? Are there any other areas of WDW where SWW is celebrated?!

Thanks for your help! :)

Why would you "avoid it at all costs"? It's not like they put a SW overlay on the attractions. Tower of Terror is still Tower of Terror. Rock-n-Roller Coaster is still the same. And Toy Story Midway Mania. And on and on. If the sight of people dressed in costume frightens you, then I suppose you might want to avoid the park. Honestly, the park is no different than on any other day. The only thing that changes is 1.) The crowd level and 2.) The fact that a percentage of that crowd will share an interest in a movie franchise. Guess what? All the people in line to see Ana and Elsa share an interest in a movie franchise too. There are special SWW events/meals/parades/meet and greets. But those are easy to avoid if they hold no interest for you. A walk down Sunset Blvd will be no different than any other day other than the fact that there may be some people in storm trooper costumes walking next to you.

You kinda answered yourself here:

That being said, you can still have some success by arriving early. If I was not interested in any SWW activities, but still wanted to do HS, I would just plan to hit it on a couple of rode drop mornings and made sure I was out of there and headed to another park (or to a resort for lunch) by like 11 am.

I really only meant "avoid at all costs" because of the crowd level. If we could see the park on Thursday or Monday, with lower crowds, we'll probably do that since the SWW stuff isn't a must-do for us. Nothing against Star Wars, just thought maybe we'd be avoiding some major crowds since it's something we don't have to see!

But Memorial Day weekend is very crowded to begin with. SWW might boost the number by a point or 2. But not enough to make one run for the hills.

TP predictions
Th 5/21=3
Fr 5/22=6
Sa 5/23=7
Su 5/24=9
Mo 5/25=8

These numbers aren't far off from the Memorial Day weekends pre-SWW. Based on these numbers, you should be able to find time to go.

The most crowded park, during a very crowded weekend is enough to make me avoid that park.

There is certainly time to go regardless of the crowds at any point throughout the year, but if you're not a SWW fan you can have much better success at the other parks..

Thursday is obviously your best bet for HS.

IF you wanted to try Hollywood Studios and had park hoppers I might try something like:

Fri - Magic Kingdom
Sat - Animal Kingdom then Epcot
Sun - HS @ rope drop then Magic Kingdom (or head to a water park this day)
Mon - HS @ rope drop

Also, with the "8am openings", they'll start letting guests inside the Park between 7:15am and 7:45am.

The most crowded park, during a very crowded weekend is enough to make me avoid that park.

On the days in question, DHS is never the most crowded park according to TP's predictions.

Th 5/21=3 and on that day, all other parks are either 4s or 5s.
Fr 5/22=6 and on that day, Epcot is a 7.
Sa 5/23=7 and on that day, Epcot is an 8 and AK is a 9.
Su 5/24=9 and on that day, Epcot and AK are both 10s.
Mo 5/25=8 and on that day, AK is a 9.
