After last year's trip in June, I said I'd never go to WDW in the summer again. What have I done !?! I just bought tickets to Orlando for next summer, the day after school gets out! I am going to try and keep this a secret for the entire school year and spring the surprise on the last day of school. The tickets were just too good to pass up ($239 RT on NWA from MSP for you Minnesotans).

Now, I just have to take in lessons learned from last summer: Get up early, take mid-day breaks, avoid PM EMH, drink water, eat light (and often), and wear waterproof shoes. Commando just won't work, like it does for our October Fall Break trips.

Can anyone else offer their advice for summer visits to WDW? Thanks! :sunny:

just got back from a july trip and found it to be bearable... :)
We had fans and misters and took mid day naps.

You've already stated the best advice for summer I can think of: get there early, take mid-day breaks, drink plenty of water. We concentrated on those things in June 05 and had a great trip. You may want to try some of the Unofficial Guide touring plans. They kept our time spent in line to a minimum. Just be careful to stop and smell the roses along the way. We felt like we rushed from one attraction to the next. We're not going to do that again. We'll use the plans for a guide as to where to start our day and a general idea of what order to do the attractions in, then just enjoy ourselves along the way. I think the plans helped, but then again my wife toured the MK on a Saturday in mid-July this year with no plan other than to start early. They started at Space Mountain and just toured leisurely from there and had no problems with lines. The weather was sunny also. May have just been lucky though.

A guy who works in my school district did that--left the afternoon of our teacher work day for his trip! That makes me nervous--you never know when the year will be "extended" for snow days, etc. We've done June but now do July 5 or later (value season :goodvibes ). We had a mister fan for the hotter days; there was usually a breeze by 11AM. Take pool breaks or schedule a "sleep-in" day when you go to the pool before you go to the parks in the afternoon.

Great airfare price! I'd do the same! (Maybe I will ;) )

I just took a mini vacation July 8-12 and it was hot and crowded but a lot of fun! I would suggest making time for the water parks. This was our first visit to the water parks and I can't wait to do it again. I prefer to go to WDW during the winter months and usually it seems too chilly for me to enjoy the water parks. (The pool, sure, but to pay for a water park...nah...)

As a DIS'er, I'm sure you know all about how to make the best of the crowds and heat, so you'll have a blast!!!

Enjoy!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :moped:
