Any tips on how to have your kid be "the kid" to get to do this?

Honestly,

I have seen this people pull on this sword a million times... I have to believe it's completley random. Only a CM would be able to answer for sure.

Where and what is this?

This is the sword and the stone. Located behind Cinderella's castle in front of the carousel. Random people at random times of the day are able to pull the sword from the stone.

A couple times a day there is a Sword and the Stone Ceremony. Check the Times Guide for exactly when.

Lasy year my BF was slected by Merlin to pull out the sword--He was not able to :rotfl2: so Merlin then selected a little boy who was quietly watching in the front row. My BF was then the boy's "BodyGuard" He had to walk around holding the little boy's robe, etc. It was so funny! :rotfl2:

I didn't notice the little boy doing anything but just watching the wizard, so I'm not sure if there are any tips to get selected!

Here's a picture from the Ceremony:

I don't think Merlin appreciates over zealous parents. I say this because I was trying really hard to get my middle child chosen on our last trip. Merlin picked my youngest instead who I'm sure he didn't realize was mine, too!

There was an adult chosen as body guard, too.

My Brendan insisted for the rest of the day and on through the rest of the summer that he was the king and that he didn't have to listen to me.

Be careful what you ask for! :rotfl2:

lol... Really, my ds just has a fascination with everything pirate-y and involving swords. It just occurred to me the other day he might enjoy this! I guess we'll just have to try to catch one of the ceremonies and hope for some pixie dust!

Is it ALWAYS boys who are chosen for this?? Every time i've ever seen it or heard about someone on here having done it, they were a boy. My girls would love it if they were chosen, it seems odd to me.

no, I have seen girls chosen in the past

my son and daughter were chosen. they were quietly watching the show, the merlin had both kids hold onto the sword, and they pulled it out. it was great.

do you get any special priveldges in the park the rest of the day if you pull it out? or is it just the thrill of being the one who pulled the sword out of the stone?

there were no special privaleges, it just made my kids day.

In DL you get a certificate and a nice medallion that would probably be $10-15 if they sold them.

Is that not the case in WDW?

We've seen it twice in DL, and my boy's been picked both times. The first, he was playing with the sword when Merlin arrived. He was tired at the end of the week, hadn't even wanted to check it out when we were just around the corner despite the fact that he is a sword FREAK! I considered dropping a word to Merlin, but decided that could easily work against us. I think it was beneficial that I didn't have my camera, so it was clear that this wasn't just a photo op for me. On the other hand, the next time a couple of years later, I had a 35mm and video, and he got picked, so go figure. He was in the front row center both times.

Cheers.

It seems to be a quiet child who seems genuienly interested in the show and not trying to be picked. I have seen both boys and girls and I would say minimum age of about 5ish. Pushing in front and being a me-firstie dosen't work well with this show, again, Just My Humble Experience!

Its a fun, cute show regardles of if your picked or not.

My grandson was chosen. He wasn't doing anything special to be chosen, but we were standing in the front row. Don't know if that helps or not.
YEs, the kids do get a certificate and a medallion to wear around their neck. My grandson loved the medallion, because for the rest of the day CMs would refer to him as the Ruler of the Realm when they noticed it.
