If you were a Disney VP involved with the SWL project, what would be your challenges and how would you solve them due to the anticipated incredible increase in park attendance and the strong pull of SWL within the park...
Parking. Hopefully Disney will soon start construction of the new parking garage and it will be sufficient for both CMs and customers and will be user friendly.
Tickets. Expand the five-day pass to six and seven days.
EMH. At the opening of SWL and until the crowds subside to a manageable level (two years?), have EMH at DL every day of the week instead of just three days a week.
EMH. Consider delaying the opening of Tomorrowland until regular DLP hours. Open SWL, Fantasyland, Frontierland, NOS and Critter Country at EMH.
DLP hours. Increase the daily hours by one to two hours.
Food and Beverage. Lots of challenges here.
* Menu of SWL restaurants. What will be acceptable? Devise suggested menus in advance and try them out prior to park opening at other DLP restaurants to gauge their popularity? I have never seen any heavy meals in SW movies. Only drinking and appetizer like meals.
* A new exclusive club to help ease the demand for Club 33? SWL is a great opportunity for Disney to build from scratch an exclusive club with SW theme.
* Alcohol. A public bar/ club/ restaurant serving alcohol?
* A SWL bar serving alcohol and limited appetizers?
* A table service and/ or counter service restaurant?
* Perhaps a downstairs counter service, upstairs table service and private club on the third level?
* Restaurant/ Club inserted into a ride like Blue Bayou is with POTC?
Park renovation. Once SWL becomes operational, what is next in the queue for renovation or addition? A Fantasyland extension or complete overhaul and renovation of Tomorrowland? I vote for a complete Tomorrowland renovation.
Merchandise. Great opportunity to design, build and operate the world's greatest one stop shopping for all things SW. Great promise to become the highest grossing/profit store of any Disney store world wide.
Total immersion. Lot of discussion about CM's (including restaurant and store staff) being dressed in appropriate SW garb. Drones, robots and clones walking about. Will fiction become reality?
FP+. How will Disney incorporate FP+ strategy keeping into account DLR is mostly local...but the opening of SWL will result increase the volume of resort guests? Will DLP hotel guests receive an earlier window to reserve their FP+?
Downtown Disney. Will and how will Disney upgrade Downtown Disney to take advantage of the increased popularity of DLP due to the opening of SWL? Perhaps build a SW theme restaurant within Downtown Disney?
DLP Resort Hotels. When will the new 4-Star hotel become operational? I suspect the demand for SWL will result in a significant increase for DLP hotel guests. And will the new 4-Star resort have direct access to DLP?
Pricing. Due to anticipated high demand of everything (hotel rooms, food, tickets, merchandise, etc...) within DLP, will Disney gradually and consistently raise prices in advance of SWL opening to avoid a negative public perception of a dramatic price increase at the opening of SWL?
The opening of SWL brings with it a ton of strategic challenges to the Disney brass. They have a once in a lifetime opportunity to dramatically improve DLP in one big move. Hopefully they will succeed for both Disney and its millions of fans.
