Switching to Verizon - what phone should we get?

I've had the Motorola Droid since February and I really like it. I'm still discovering new things I can do with it.

Ah, apparently you are a newcomer to cell phones.
My first phone...

My next likely will be a Jitterbug, because I am one of those freaks that only wants to make and receive phone calls.

LOL that top one was was my 1st phone when I was 18 & I was way cooler than all my other friends with only pagers!!! The motorola from the other poster was my 2nd one & DH's 1st.

I have the Ally and really love it. It's got tons of free apps to choose from, one of which turns it into a kindle (my newest one as of today). I've been choosing all kinds of free books to read on it.:thumbsup2

The LTE network is going to be MUCH faster (about 10x the speed) then the current 3G network that we use. Which is fantastic, but like anything else with speed comes cost.

I'm working on LTE. (And WiMax too) It is faster, but real world speeds won't be 10x.

As I said, the Droid 2 wouldn't be a bad choice at all. With the new keyboard layout and the snapdragon processor it will be a very solid device.

Droid 2 doesn't have a snapdragon processor. 750 Mhz OMAP.

I really love my Droid Incredible! I needed to change phones ASAP or else I would have waited for the Droid 2. I miss having a physical keyboard but I am quickly getting used to the touch screen. I just love all of the features of this phone and it was great when i was delayed at the airport yesterday. I read a book on my Kindle, played some games I downloaded and surfed the net. The net surfing speed is pretty decent. I also google chat with my husband since I don't have a texting package.

Ouch, it will still be a solid device though.

I would get a Droid Incredible ( what I have ) or a Droid X.

I would not wait until 4G comes out... it will take years to rollout everywhere.

You are absolutely correct, it will take a while for 4G to roll out completely. I wasn't suggesting waiting for a phone to take advantage of the 4G. I was suggesting waiting for a phone because the hardware will be better once 4G is rolled out. Faster network means faster phones to support it, regardless if you are running on 4G data or not. ;)

And the two phones you mentioned above are absolutely fantastic phones. The OP will not be disappointed in either of those choices.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Droid X. I was really looking forward to the bigger screen, but figured it would be a nightmare to tote around. But when it is in your pocket it doesn't feel much different then the Droid did because it is so thin.

Happy Droiding

Looks like the Droid 2 is being released (on 8/12) with a 1Ghz OMAP. Still no Snapdragon, but at least its 1Ghz.

STOP ALREADY!!! I have an upgrade on my plan and I was going to ditch my much hated Blackberry and get the Droid 2 but now there is a 4G network coming out so I should wait. Stop the train, it's moving too fast, can we just slow down the development for a bit so we can get used to the current stuff :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Ok, so what is good about the 4G vs the 3G (faster I assume, anything else?).

This was my first cell phone:

And now you can get a Droid that births your children for you...

My brother had that same phone too.
