Has anyone ever checked out of thier resort early and went to another? We are currently booked at Yacht Club for 8 days but may want to stay at AKL for the last two nights of our vacation but do not want to make that decision now.

If you check out early, you may lose the two nights you already paid for. It depends on how the resort wants to handle it.

If you go to another resort, you will be quoted the highest rack room rate for that season and booking category. You must pay in full at check-in.

The best way to do a split stay is to book it that way. You have until 45 days out to make changes to a package, or 5 days in advance for room only, subject to availability of course.

I agree with the other PPs. If you want to do a split stay, arrange it before your cancellation penalty window opens.

Remember that you will have paid for your original room in full at or before check in (depending on if it is room only or a package). The cancellation policy will be in effect, so you could lose the money paid for those last 2 nights. Disney usually treats stays at more than one resort as completely separate bookings. So a spur of the moment decision to switch resorts could cost you the money for the 2 nights you don't stay at the original resort PLUS paying full rack rate at the second resort. And if you had the DDP, it would not carry over to the second resort either.

Definitely cheaper and less hassle to alter your reservation before your arrival.

Thanks everyone. I booked a package using a pin code. One other ? I have is if I do a split stay do I have to cancel my existing reservation and do a new one or just shorten the days and do the last two as room only? I fear that I will loose my reservation that I have under that pin.

No, you modify your existing reservation; then do a new reservation with the room-only. The room only is a one night's deposit with the remaining due at check-in.

If you do it before the 45 days, there will be no charge. Any changes made within 14 days of arrival, there is a $15.00 charge.
