Switching resorts, how much trouble is it asking for?

Quite a simple question, but still. How much trouble is it asking for to switch resorts during a stay? I know it can take a while for the luggage to be taken from one resort to the other. If we were to do a park-day, check out early at resort one and check in early at resort two, should that normally (knock on wood here!) be spacious enough not to expect any big problems and the luggage to be there at least around say 3 pm?

I like to read anyones experience, allthough those who switched from CBR to AKL will have that bit of extra 'looking forward to'.

This is just an idea.

Why not just take a cab and bring your own luggage. So you KNOW it's at the resort. They will hold it until your room is ready.

We've done this from a Downtown Disney resort to the Contemporary and it wasn't even a $10 cab fare.

Could be an idea, and I'm definately not crossing it of my list but it isn't the first choice on my list at the moment. (must say that $10,- isn't bad at all!)

I want to surprise my parents during the next trip. I've got a couple of scenario's in my mind, which of one is switching resorts for the last two days. I know they would just about kill for the AKL. ;) But I also know they don't love dragging around any luggage and them being those people that just won't stand there and let the cab driver do the heavy work. Letting Disney take care of things would make it easier on that part. They -and I!!- aren't people that fuss about getting there luggage within that 15 minute window, just as long as it'll be there when they get back from a park.

we changed resorts during our last stay.. we won't do it again... too much trouble.. we also took a cab.. but the whole thing of having to wait for room to be ready etc.. is just way too much trouble.. we like being at one resort the whole stay! But we did experience WL and AKL last trip! Loved them both but prefer WL!

I'd let Disney handle the luggage. You would have to tell your parents so they can pack everything up. Then it's just a matter of calling bell services and having your luggage transferred. No mess with a cab or handling your luggage. Simple switch.

We've switched twice--once planned and once unplanned. The unplanned switch occured because we were so fed up with the service at GF that we asked to move to BWI (no flames please, this was just our experience several years ago). We made both moves on in-park days and had Disney handle the luggage. Both transfers went smoothly. I would be loathe to give up any of my park time to take a cab, but that's just me.

One disclaimer: both trips were several years ago. Things change and sometimes you just hit an unavoidable bump in the road. This happens in any service industry.

But since our experiences were so positive we are planning to do this again next year. If you decide to make a switch I hope your experience is a good one.pixiedust:

We are doing a split stay this December between AKL and CSR, four nights each. My family is letting Disney take care of transferring the luggage. Hope everything runs smoothly. We have never done a split stay before, but I just had to try out the two resorts I couldn't choose between when booking.

Thnx for sharing your experiences, everyone!

:rotfl: I will. If I do this, I think I'll tell them on the flight over, give them something to dream away about during the 12 hours of sky. No way I'm packing their suitcases behind their backs, not even for a surprise, I hate packing for myself enough. ;)

We did our first split stay last month, YC first then over to Poly...it was super simple because we had our own car but for us the downside was this...we loved the YC so much better and wished we stayed the entire week there.
