Switching points for cash

I am new to DVC as well....Can I book a rservation with cash for 2 cabins on Disney Magic and then when it is after the 11 month window, switch one of them for points?

Also any ideas on what to do with a small amount of points that have been booked but not uesed? 26......leftovers...
