We have had WDW APs for the past 2 years and are thinking of switching to UO APs. We love WDW, but we have been so many times that our son is actually bored with it. He is only a 1/2 inch shy of 54" so we thought UO would be good for him. He loves roller coasters and thrill rides, which Disney is lacking (imo). It has been quite awhile since we've been to UO so I wanted to get some advice as to whether this was a good idea. I also love the idea of being able to stay onsite and get FOTL. WDW's fastpass worked well for us since we knew how to work it right, but it would be nice not to even have to worry about it. Let me know if you have done what we are thinking of doing and how it was for your family. Thanks in advance.

Nothing to worry about, IMO -- you can always return to WDW in future years. But if it's lost a little something to your thrill-seeking son, by all means -- spend more time at Universal. If it's a one-or-the-other thing, you could always try Universal APs for a year and see how it goes...

we did this several years ago and never regretted it!

our son is now 13 and LOVES Universal. we did the mickey halloween party

this year after being away from disney for a couple of years and our son

wanted to head right back to Universal.

Have fun!

I have done the same thing. I am 22 now, but I grew up at Disney (went at least 3 times a year). Then around the age of 16 or 17 I went to Universal for the first time and I loved it. Then I went back when I was 19 I decided to drop my AP to Disney and get one to Universal. Not only is it cheaper (almost half the price!) but I just enjoy Universal more now.

The Express Passes for staying onsite is one of the reasons why Universal has won me over. I hate spending so much money at Disney to stay onsite and all that only to have to wait in tons of lines to ride any of the (limited) thrill rides. I just got back from my first trip to a Disney park in about 3 years and I did not enjoy it as much as I used to simply because I hated waiting in a 50 minute line to ride Space Mountain.

Also, when you have an AP, you can get some NICE room discounts. I am currently trying to decide if I should take advantage of an offer Universal sent me for Dec. for a room for only $121 a night! Oh, and don't forget the amazing renew price! I have to renew my pass this Dec. for the first time and its only $155 to renew for another year! I can't see myself going back to Disney for some time simply because I feel like I get a lot more fun and excitement from Universal along with a much more relaxing experince since there is no line than I do at Disney.
