I'm switching from Verizon Wireless to AT&T Wireless. (Not my choice; not my decision; done deal.)

Can anyone fill me in on what I can expect to be different?

I'm switching from an LG Voyager to LG Quantum. From 100 included TXTs to a full data plan. (Again, not my choice; not my decision; done deal.)

All insights into what I can expect with AT&T Wireless will be appreciated.

One specific question: Is there any issue with sending TXTs from my AT&T Wireless service to friends with Verizon Wireless service?

You will not have any issues sending texts. As long as you get a signal with AT&T you probably won't see much difference. Your biggest difference will be the phone itself, but anytime you switch phones you will have a learning curve.

Text or SMS messages, just like voice calls, are carrier agnostic so they will go through. Occasionally there are some SMS inter-interoperability issues when texting some Japanese carriers but inside the US it doesn't matter which carrier initiates and which receives the SMS message.

Bicker,
I see that you're in Burlington, MA. I switched from Verizon to ATT as well for the IPhone. Verizon coverage is definitely better in the greater Boston area but ATT is very good as well. I spend a lot of time in the 128/Burlington/Lexington/Waltham area and never have any issues.

My only caution to people going over to AT&T is tied to international travel. AT&T does not offer an unlimited data plan for international travel at any price. I had a friend use her iPhone on a recent trip to the UK. In 6 days her bill was over $900, and this with their largest data plan offered.

So, my advice, if you travel overseas, turn off the data on your phone before you leave.

My question Why in the world is getting a Windows 7 cell phone that just came out. From my understanding that app store is not up running yet. Windows 7 is consider a smartphone that come with a least 30.00 dollar data plan.

Can't help with the text part because I don't text.

Hmmm... is that a question? I think you're missing some words! :)

Regardless, if I understand what you're trying to say correctly, then I refer you back to my first message: (Not my choice; not my decision; done deal.)

I'll let you know but the only apps I need are TXTing, MS Office (including Exchange) integration, Zune, Xbox Live, and a web browser with flash capability, so your concern probably doesn't affect me.

Oh! And if it makes and received phone calls, that would be good too.

Someone else is paying for me to have the data plan, so I don't really care how much it costs.

no help from me Bicker, but would you mind posting how the switch goes for you? We are Verizon, DS is coveting the W7 phone, but I am not willing to give up our Verizon coverage for AT&T, I have read/heard too many horror stories about dropped calls, louse coverage. We have been happy with Verizon for 10 years, have never had an issue yet and with DD away at college need to not rock the boat as it is her primary line. Trying desperately to talk DS into researching the V smartphones, specifically Droid, but he is convinved the Windows 7 is the way to go. I know all carriers are going to get slower due to the demands, and Verizon is not going to get 4G for their phones for a long time, likely a year....uggghhhhh, anyway, please post if you can and hope the switch is a positive one for you.

We switched from Verizon to AT&T because DD wanted an iphone. AT&T sweetened the deal enough that we broke our contract with Verizon. I always hated Verizon's customer service and sadly, AT&T is not much better. They were always very nice, but never followed through. DS (who is away at college in Pittsburgh) complains about dropped calls and unreceived texts. I experience that only infrequently,

The only real complaint I have is in lack of 3G coverage. Unfortunately, AT&T still uses the Edge network and it's slow, slow slow. Not good at all for anything related to the internet.

Phone service has always been pretty reliable for us.

We made the same move this Spring. The only difference we have really seen is in the lack of coverage. Verizon has had better coverage everywhere we have traveled. AT&T definitely lacks in this area and it is beyond frustrating but the price we pay to have the Iphones.

We also lost the ability to have the parental controls (the ones on AT&T are a joke) on DD's phone which so far hasn't been that big of a deal.

Our biggest headache has come from the Verizon billing department. At some point a few months ago they decided that we didn't pay our final bill (we did and have the cancelled check to prove it) and turned us over to a collection agency which hounded us repeatedly until DH sent them an additional payment which Verizon then refunded because we had already paid them. :headache: Save every single receipt from every payment you make to them.

Edge is WORTHLESS. That is about all we can pick up for the majority of our drive from our home in GA to just outside of WDW. Makes for a long 7 hours with no internet!

I made the switch and CANNOT tell any difference at all. It took me MONTHS to finally decide and once I did I am so happy I did. BTW, I wanted an iphone really really bad. Love it!

If could have wait couple more months. The iphone is coming to verizon.

Thank you for the amunition, lol....in DS defense, he has an old, OLD clam shell...no bells or whistles, he is at the point of neededing to be on par with society in at least being able to understand how to use a smartphone (even if he doesn't own one himself) We ran into that ourselves, the expectations of communiction at work etc...he has offered to pay his own way and be on his own for AT&T., but even with that offer I feel he is wasting his money which would be a TON for him, we need that car insurance to still be contributed to ;) I also think he will be frustrated if he loses the coverage he is used to...but will certainly have him read those reviews!

I've had At&t for 8 years now (well they sold to Cingulair at some point, and then went back to being AT&T) I haven't had any major issues in those 8 years! The only bummer is that we don't get great reception in the mountains where my parents spend their summers, but that's literally no mans land, so that wouldn't be an issue for most.
Any time we have had an issue on our bill (there's been a few here and there, but by no means a chronic problem) they are courteous and quick to fix the mistake. Maybe we've just been lucky? In 8 years time though I would guess if it was just luck it would have run out every now and then.
