Switching from AOA to OKW

Well I wasn't able to stick with my original reservation for the Cars Suite at AOA before Christmas, but I had a good excuse for the change (instead of my usual tendency to just mess with things). Airline schedules finally dropped and we couldn't get a direct flight from our local airport on the right day to start our reservation. So with some help from the CS rep I pushed us back a day and moved to a 1 Brdm Villa at OKW. I thought about getting two value rooms and booking everything separately- but for now I just left it booked as a package with the Free Dining special. At least I have the dates I need, and a room that can handle 5 adults (three grown kids). We lost a bathroom by making the change, but there is at least a kitchen sink, fridge and microwave and plenty of space to spread out. They look like comfortable rooms.

I have read some reviews about the Villas being in need of refurbishment. I don't think we are going to mind things being a little tired- as long as it is clean. Has anyone stayed there recently and have any input as to the 1 bedroom Villas?

The OKW villas are fine. They are designed to resemble Key West homes. They are maintained as they are required to be since all renovations are paid for my DVC owners at OKW. They did a renovation about five years ago and are constantly painting, replacing stuff that needs replacement. The renovations won't start until sometime later this year and may make changes/modifications to the villas. You'll have tons of room. The bathroom is actually split with a tub and sink are located in one space and the shower toilet and another sink are located in another space right next to the other. If you are in a building numbered 30 or higher (Turtle Pond or South Point) you'll have a door through the laundry room (full sized washer and dryer) to the section with the toilet, sink and shower.

Thank you! It sounds pretty perfect to me. We have stayed at many of the resorts and have been going since the three kids were quite little. But we have never stayed at any of the villas. It sounds like it may be fairly peaceful?

Old Key West is SO peaceful. The one bedroom villas are huge - bigger than my first apartment! Staying at Old Key West truly feels like you are on vacation. The resort is also fairly centrally located, so going to the parks doesn't take long, once you are en route. If you don't want to sit on the bus for too long, get on at the Hospitality House.

It's our most-visited resort and we love it. We've stayed in the 2-bed and the 1-bed with a studio lock off and they are huge. You will get a full kitchen with a dishwasher, laundry and lovely balcony to sit out on. Only 6 months and counting until we are 'home' again. Enjoy your stay.

I also really enjoy the pool area. It's a nice setting because it is right along the river and boats will come by going to and from Disney Springs.

Overall it has a feel much more akin to a neighborhood/condo style resort than a hotel, because it is. A few years ago we stayed a 3 bedroom grand villa with my parents, my wife and I, and my adult brother and we loved it. Enjoy!

OKW was the first resort that we stayed at and we LOVED it. We had a 1 bedroom and were amazed at the amount of space! The laundry in room was a godsend. The bathroom was a little dated, but everything was clean and comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again or to recommend it to someone else. And Olivia's is a hidden gem.
