What is the safest strategy for switching resorts at 7 months, assuming that I don't have enough points to hold two reservations at once? Thanks!

To give a more specific answer, it really depends on the time of year, the resorts in question, and the room category you are looking for. The simple answer is that the safest strategy is to call MS right at 9ET and have them find the desired room and then book it as they cancel the other reservation.

During many times of the year it is pretty easy to get into most of the resorts right at 7 months. So, in some cases, you could have your home booked at 11 months, but then look at availability the day before your 7 month mark at the various resorts to see what is open. If there is wide availability in rooms/resorts you would like to stay in, you could probably cancel your home reservation and then your points would be available the next morning at 8ET to get what you desire. There is some risk to that strategy, but again, it really depends on the time of year.

I have a ressie at OKW and want to switch to BCV tomorrow am. What time can I do this online? Since I don't have enough points available to do both ressies at once, would I be safe cancelling the OKW right before I try BCV( provided there is availability at BCV)If I don't get the BCV isn't OKW usually still available to rebook at 7 months out? The way the system has been working lately I am very nervous about the system going down in the middle of my big switch and getting left with nothing!
What do you all think? Should I just wait and call MS instead of playing around on line?
Thanks guys!

Definitely wait and call MS, it's not worth the risk!

I tried to do exactly this last week. I wanted to change my OKW reservation to AKV for the first week in December. AKV was available for 5 out of 7 nights so I decided to book the available nights and waitlist the others. I cancelled my 10 night reservation at OKW and then went back in to book AKV only to find that there was now just 1 night available :scared1: So I then tried to rebook OKW but that was gone too :scared1::scared1: There were no consecutive nights in a studio anywhere and I ended up having to book 5 different resorts over the 10 nights. Boy did I learn a lesson the hard way!

We will have a 2 yr old with us so definitely don't want to be moving around a lot.

Thanks for the help. Sending some pixie dust your way!

Thanks! I've been checking online everyday and have almost managed to salvage the trip. I had to borrow all of next years points to book 1 beds instead of studios but I really didn't want to be packing and unpacking every couple of days. I'm actually thrilled with what I've got, I just need the night of the 5th in Kidani and it will be perfect! So far I've booked:-

11/30-12/2 BLT LV studio
12/2-12/5 Kidani savannah view 1 bed
12/5-12/6 Jambo savannah view 1 bed
12/6-12/8 Kidani savannah view 1 bed
12/8- 12/21 BWV SV 1 bed

I am so excited to be staying at AKV! We usually always stay at VWL and then an Epcot resort but this year there was no availability at VWL so I was forced into other options. I had never really considered AKV before but now I have looked into it, I can't wait! The 1 bed looks beautiful and I think I could quite happily sit on the balcony, watching the animals for our entire stay.

Hope you manage to get BCV tomorrow. pixiedust: It's wide open from the 14th so you should be ok. It's great being able to walk into Epcot, especially with a stroller and your little one will love the sandy bottom pool.
