Switching @ 7 month window possible?

Hi all! We are owners @ SSR. We will be travelling next October (first week) and am planning on booking 2 studios this weekend for next year. At the 7 month window, is there a way to tell if there is availability to switch to a different resort if one opens without losing a studio? I know I may not be making too much sense and I'm fine to stay @ SSR, but if I could switch to say BWV I would. I'm thinking there won't be availability during that time due to food & wine, but you never know. Any advice for best chances to make it happen?

I'm editing to add- can you see if there's more than one studio available or can I call in and they know that? I don't really want us at 2 separate resorts.

No way to know how many rooms are actually available if inventory shows. It could be 1 room...it could be 20 rooms. You could call, but at that point you'd be an hour behind everyone else. Odds are, those rooms will be gone, if any are available by 8AM the morning of your 7-month window as thats an extremely desired time period for BWV and DVC bookings in general. Epcot's 40th is also next October 1st, so if you're looking first week, that will just make things even more difficult than they normally are just for food and wine.

Book SSR so you have something...and hope for the best, but I wouldn't get your hopes up to high for 2 studios in that time period somewhere else, that way if they do come through, you'll feel like you hit the lottery!

And TBH, for that week, once you call in you'll have lost an hour and be unlikely to get two studios anywhere, let alone a near-park resort.

I think you can try, but be prepared to stay at SSR. I would peg your chances at BWV or BCV that week as close to zero, especially needing two units. Two units at open online would be near zero odds; waiting an hour is going to take it to no odds.

I doubt you will be able to switch even the first of your two reservations at 7-months out to any resort except potentially Kidani savanna view and OKW, and possibly Riviera preferred view or the unknown right now, VGF, which may have the new studios available for that time. Nevertheless, I do not think you need to be worried about being able to switch one reservation and then not being able to switch the other. Assuming the second change cannot be made after doing the first, it is likely you will be able to switch the first one back to SSR which usually has studios open at that time at 7-months out.

Thank you all. We've been many times during this week and know how busy it is. We could all fit in a 1 bedroom so I could always book one of those and waitlist if not available on the off chance. To be honest, today my adult daughter said, oh I think I would like SSR so we can walk to DS so I may just take the easy way and book that and go with it ;). When I used to rent points @ BCV during this time I always booked with someone 11 months out.

Its SSR, book the two studios, at 7 months try to swap both, if you only get one, swap back to SSR, it aint going anywhere.

Dont listen to the 7 month window negative nellys, literally doesnt hurt to try with SSR being the resort you are moving from, can always move back if its right at hitting the 7 month window.

BWV, BCV at seven months out for October? Not going to happen.

In the past, those rooms HAVE gotten booked right from under people when they've done what you are suggesting. October can book really tight and when it locks up like that, its musical chairs, with people grabbing reservations anywhere as fast as they are let go. Often, a few weeks later, SSR has cleared up a bit and people have been able to rebook - by stalking the website or through the waitlist - but it can be stressful.

I own at BWV and had switched at 7 months to other resorts many times. I usually switch for spring trips when availability is easier. I have Riviera for the beginning of next April.

We've been DVC for 20 years and I've only been able to switch resorts at 7 month mark once. We were able to get BCV a couple of years ago. Went on wait list. MS said the only reason we were able to get it was that is was only 4 days and it was the first week of March. We made our reservation at 11 month at home resort and waitlisted BCV. They called when it became available.

I have also had some luck with the wait list….
if it doesnt work it can make for some crazy spilt stays, but if it does work you are good to go….

what i have done in the past. Is set up a wait list for the entire stay at the new resort and at the same time just the last two days…. If i get the entire thing its easy, if i get the last two days, i set up two new wait list….

most times i can stitch together the stay i want…
i few times time i have ended up with a split stay…. And that still works out ok..

Thanks all! After talking to my daughter we are still good if we are @ SSR but with the little one they would like AKV Savannah View if we can get it. Worst thing is I'll stay @ SSR and be super happy about it :). AKV isn't my favorite. We've owned before a few years ago and I got the Poly at 7 months out and same year I rented BCV from someone booking 7 months out. I know times are different with the influx of points and such so thought I would ask.
